I think everyone pretty much answered all the questions except the one about taxis (unless I missed the answer somewhere). There are taxis close to all the resorts, including AKL!

Hi bas! Happy planning!

HI! I told you I'm finally getting in the mood to plan. I promised Ray this would be a NO "plans" trip, but I just can't do it. Only planning a few things, all of which can be cancelled it need be :)

We once had a great pool view room on 3rd floor and it was very convenient to the lobby, restaurants and buses! I'd recommend asking for a room in the 2nd pod off the lobby -- the pod closest to the lobby has more restaurant roof view than actual pool view. :thumbsup2

I'd call WDT and have the request added to your reservation now. Faxes may not be seen by room assigners.

ITA. 3d floor is so convenient :thumbsup2

Brook,

Back in 2002 (when I realized I had a WDW addiction! :rotfl:), I started recording all the room #'s on a list (Word document), which is now absurdly long!! I list the dates, resort, room #, category (also points if DVC) and it gets a * if it was one of those WOW rooms!! ;) I also keep the final bill envelope they put on your door the last morning (:sad1:) in a "Vacation" file box -- which is now bursting at the seams!! I need a bigger box!!! :rotfl2:
I've stayed at AKL so many times, I've actually had 2 of the rooms TWICE and AKV I've had the same studio twice!!! :rotfl:

FWIW, my WDW addiction officially began in 1997. I wish I'd begun keeping track of resorts and room #'s back then! :cutie:

RachelTori, I missed this post until wendypooh quoted it!
I WISH I had recorded everything from the beginning too. I DID save a lot of envelopes with the bill in the beginning (in my Passporter ;)) - and I save them all now (and take a photo of my actual room number plaque) but there are so many in the in-between years that I'd love to have :headache:

When does Kimmar return?? I hope she's having a blast :yay:

Are there any locations for good Standard Views? What should I request?

I knew I had to do something when I realized that I was having trouble remembering the dates/resorts (and that was back in the days when we were only going once or twice a year!!) No way on earth I would remember room #'s or views!!

I'm anxious for her to tell us about the trip. She sure deserves a great vacation! :thumbsup2

Here is a link to a map of AKL from allears http://allears.net/acc/aklmap.jpg
Personally, I would request Giraffe Trail, to be closest to the pool and restaurants. You'll see Ostrich Trail on the left at the very bottom of the map and Giraffe Trail on the right. THose trails hold the bulk of the Standard View rooms.

I can totally relate :rotfl:

I just found my Safari folder from last year, we were in room 6202, and it was beautiful, with great views.

I'll finally be up on the 6th floor in October! :thumbsup2

Since I started keeping my "list" I've stayed in rooms:

2377 (savanna view - WAY at the end of Kudu)
3416 (pool {restaurant roof!} view)
3422 (pool view)
4219 (three times!! Twice as Club Level)
4225 (twice; both times as Club Level)
4501 (Club Level)
5006 (DVC)
5020 (DVC)
5112 (DVC; twice)
5241 (Club Level before the DVC conversion)
5406 (DVC)

7534 (Kidani; DVC)

There are a couple of pre-"list" stays that are lost in the cobwebs of my mind forever!! :sad2:

And that's just my AKL/AKV stays!! I definitely have a serious addiction!!

So which was your favorite room? Since I have only been once I have to 6202 was my favorite...

Thanks!!! I figured there would be taxis located near the valet station at AKL, but I just wanted to double check :goodvibes

4219 & 4225 are in the first pod off the lobby on Kudu. Those would be among my favorite (and obviously the room assigners like me to have them!! :rotfl:) for Club Level (non-DVC) stays. :goodvibes

3422 was a pool view - the last room in the first pod, and it was a bunk bed room with a true pool view (our room down the hall, closer to the lobby, had that great roof view!!)

5020 is a Value Studio on Giraffe Trail - it had an awesome pool view! :goodvibes

5112 is a Value Studio on Ostrich Trail; Sunset Savanna view and very convenient to the lobby. :goodvibes

Those would be among my favorites, but I really have never had an AKL/AKV stay that was anything less than wonderful! :cloud9:

Hey Bestie! Who you callin' a loon?

Jambo everyone! Do you all remember me? :wave2: It has been quite a long time since I have been on the DIS. My DH's mom got very ill back in early June and you all were so wonderful about expressing you best wishes and prayers. Thank you so very much.

However, she did pass away the end of June. The months of June, July and even the first part of August has been a blur. I think things have settled down now. We are keeping a very close eye on MDH's dad since mom's death. He is not well and has COPD, but he is doing well emotionally and tries to do all he can without asking for help. :confused3 We will continue to see him every day and make sure he is eating and as heathy as he can be. I try to make him his favorite meals a couple times a week, however he does like to cook for himself. He is a BIG sweet eater for breakfast and is enjoying snacks which mom never allowed. :)

Now, it is time for me to turn my attention to our October trip to WDW. I have to scurry as I don't have all our ADR's made and need to fine line some plans. We arrive in less than two months. :scared1: Don has been helping me yesterday and today with some things. However I really would like a ressi for Le Cellier during the first part of our visit. One of our DD and DSIL are joining us for the first part of our trip. That is her favorite, favorite place and my ressi I booked back in March fell through the internet black hole. Hmmm

Sending warm wishes to you all. Promise I wil be on the thread a lot more often now....at least until October 8th. :rotfl: :rotfl2::goodvibes I have to go back to the old thread to start catching up. WOW you guys sure have been busy on here.
