Ray Bradbury

I've read Bradbury's book, and several others that he's written. I can't imagine that this has anything to do with politics and everything to do with "owning" a name.

I don't think it's political. I think it has more to do with owning copyrights etc.

I think it has more to do with courtesy. Would it have been too much trouble for MM to ask if Ray minded? I don't think there is any copyright issue, but as a professional courtesy it would have been the right thing to do.

Thats the first time I've ever seen "MM" and "courtesy" in the same paragraph. :smooth:

Just because something does not exist
does not mean that it's perception
can't be used to generate income.

Answer to orginal question,

Is it political or personal ?

Neither seems likely in the context
in which it seems they were offered.

Suffice it to say that this thread is
probably evidence of the Ray's orginal intent.

I echo the above thoughts.

Edited....but not Truth's, he got his in while I was replying. I do not agree with him.

Actually, I wish I did not even reply.

Dearest Dan,

What do you not agree with ?

What do you think was said that was not true ?

Because of Ray's apparent public upset he will likely make additional money.

Ray is very likely concerned about his reputation/fame.

Many more people now will have a chance to find out about his 451 book and read it and that is all good.

What is in dispute here ?

Call me stupid, but I don't see why Ray Bradbury holds the rights to the word fahrenheit. I'm certainly no MM fan by any sense of the imagination, so I don't like defending him, but on this issue, I just don't see it. Am I wrong?

It's more than just a word -- Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which paper burns. the whole theme of the story was book burning, loss of freedom. Fahrenheit 9/11 is about the temperature at which freedom burns -- you can see that Moore took Bradbury's theme and built on it.

Thanks for clearing that up. I am totally clueless when it comes to Fahrenheit 451. I can see Ray Bradbury's point a little clearer now. I still doubt legally there would be anything he could do though. Again however, maybe I'm wrong.

I don't know if he'll make more money or not, but I for one would rather read a Ray Bradbury book than watch anything MM put out. You might be right by that statement!
