Oh it's there. It's been there from the beginning. A British radio host was fired for comparing Archie to a "chimp." It's all in that Twitter thread I posted above.

I don't follow them at all. Don't really care for any royal family. I just catch a little here and there, mostly on the dis. I've never heard race mentioned in the very little I hear, again only on the dis do I ever hear race mentioned. I don't really think any one cares, at least no one I know does. Besides, she's not black as you say, she's Mulatto. Her father is white, in fact, I had never heard of her before. I'm surprised really that any one other than their friends for family would care what they do.

I am not going to turn this into a discussion about Race , but I will say that just because something is not spoken aloud, does not mean it is not noticed and considered. People have biases they are nto always aware of and the consequences of these biases can sometimes be catastrophic. I had to take a class that was like a 'sensitivity" training class a few years ago. One man told us that a gay coworker committed suicide and he had no idea why. After all everyone liked him, etc. I had been listening to him speak for several weeks and his biases were pretty clear to me, so I shared the experience I had in a workplace that was "gay friendly" to a huge extent. Yes, our entry area had a lot of openly gay men employed, but once you entered management that was not so. Gay men took women to company events or they went alone. Was there anything spoken aloud? Nope. But that company mindset was there, and every person in management knew it.

I am not at all sure what dynamics take place in teh Royal Family or for any Royal watchers, but the fact that there are some things left unsaid does not mean they do not exist.

I heard a couple months ago the start of their rift was when Harry found out the William was cheating on Catherine. I think there's way more to all this than any of us know about and I think I started way before Meghan stepped into the scene.

I agree. I'm not British either, but my understanding is that propriety is very important in British society. So I expect most people wouldn't say that they disapproved of her race (or career, or divorced status...) because appearing prejudiced would not be proper. - It doesn't mean nobody feels that way. (Of course, that doesn't mean everybody feels that way, either!)

I keep reading comments like this here on the DIS. Admittedly I'm far from being an avid Royal watcher but I do generally keep up with the news. I don't remember ever seeing or hearing a single article or interview that has people ranting over this. Where are the sources? Great Britain is pretty multi-cultural and people of every race and ethnicity hold all sorts of positions of power and authority. Is it really that big a deal to them? Or is it people on this side of the pond that are making a fuss?

Because the royal family is the last bastion of antiquated pure whiteness in Britain. As I said before, you don't have to say anything racist to behave in a racist manner. I will concede that a lot of people who go out of their way to denigrate the Duchess may not realize their dislike stems from racism. But like in America, people find it easier to judge or look down their noses if a person is a minority.

And you aren't passing judgment on people now?
You are basically saying that if you don't like Meghan it is because you are a racist, you don't have to say anything racist, and you probably don't know you are- but because you are white that means you are.

Maybe people just think she's a *****. Maybe they don't like that she's an American, or a divorcee, or maybe they don't like that she's independent and not some women who was "saved" by a Prince. Maybe they don't like that she has equal say in the relationship with Harry.
I don't doubt there are those who dislike or hate her because of her race, but I doubt it's everyone's reason.

Honestly, I had no idea who the heck she was before the big wedding announcement and had no idea there was some TV show called "Suits" that she was on.

I'd never watched the show or known of her either. I'm sure there are a lot of us that could say the same. That doesn't mean they aren't famous. There are a lot of tv shows I've never heard of and a lot of celebrities I've never heard of as well. Doesn't mean they don't exist. ????

I agree her being an American, career woman, divorced all play into people’s perception of her not being pure enough. I was answering a question about whether racism was involved and yes it is. How you took that as “every” white person is racist I’m not sure. But I do believe (and have seen) people have an easier time putting down someone if they were a minority.

Mostly I notice people not put down people who are minorities because they are afraid to, then when a minority does something good or outstanding, or even whats expected, they get praised for extra for doing what ever they did. I see often.

In addition to some members of the public resenting Meghan being an American, a divorcee, an actress, and an African American, I wouldn’t leave out a bit of envy.

She’s beautiful and successful at her profession AND she married a handsome, apparently charming prince who obviously adores her. And on top of that he’s a redhead! I love redheads and have done so since birth since both my maternal grandfather and my youngest daughter are redheads. They are lovable !

I have not heard this and hope it’s not true. I also feel sad if these developments divide the brothers, now and in the future. By all accounts, William and Harry were always close.

I think if Diana were alive today, she would likely be supportive of Harry and Meghan’s position. However, I agree with some here that they should have gone through the proper channels, out of respect for the Queen and Prince Charles, especially. Harry has lived a life of privilege, which I’m sure is not always easy, but comes with many freedoms and benefits most of us will never know. He and Meghan were given an extravagant wedding and a royal residence, and should at least have the consideration and decency to show appreciation while making an amicable break from royal life if that is what they wish.
