Is it necessary to obtain an International driving permit these days?

Travelling in March and wondered if this is still a requirement to drive in Florida these days? Many thanks.

No, the International Driving Permit was never needed. Although the law was originally passed, it was rescinded just as quickly.

There has been a lot of discussion on this lately and, to my knowledge, nobody yet has been asked for a code in Orlando/the US.

I have still not heard of anyone being asked for the code.
One of the car rental agents (possibly USrentacar) had info on their site saying no rental company in Florida were asking for it, but obviously this can change at any time.

It doesn't take long to get the code so it's probably worth getting just in case

I rented in may for 2wks 2 seperate companies with no problems and was asked for nothing other then licence.
