Is it me or the site?

I am finding that the site is particularly slow. When I type it reminds me of when we first got computers.... the letters show up a while after I finish typing them in. Is this happening all over here, or is my computer taking a nap?

The fact that the site loads slow is a problem with the DIS (especially around 10PM Eastern time, every day...). The fact that typing in a form is slow is a problem with your computer, because at that point there is no communication between your web browser and the DIS's server. Well, technically there could be (through AJAX), but there would be no point.

Thank you for explaining that. Whats weird though, elsewhere on the internet, my typing is normal. I don't know.

I get that a lot. When it happens I shut down my computer and reboot. I am a leave it on all the time person so I think it just needs a chance to clear everything and start over. Usually that works. If it still continues then I delete my cache and most cookies and usually DH will run one of those Ad Aware sort of programs which cleans a bunch of stuff also.

When it only happens on here I don't think it's my/your computer that's the problem.

That's correct. When you're typing in a message, the DIS is in no way involved. It's just you, your computer, and your browser at that point, until you press Submit Reply.

If many people are suddenly having the same problem, with slowness while typing in a message, then I would suspect a widespread bit of adware or virus.

I'm just explaining how browser technology works. Like I said, it can very well be adware or a virus that your computer has contracted, that targets you when you're entering data into input controls on a page delivered from a specific host, perhaps trying to capture or react to your keystrokes. The point is that when you're in that specific mode, there is no way for the DIS to have any impact whatsoever on the speed at which letters get entered into your thread message.

I participate in a lot of websites, and a lot of vBulletin forums, specifically. The DIS is pretty typical of online discussion forums. There was some strangeness with the Search capability for a while, and there were capacity problems that manifested in long latency between server-swaps, but those problems are gone, and even if they weren't they wouldn't (couldn't) affect the issue that was raised. That issue, as reported, simply cannot be a server-based issue.

True. The site here does seem to have its repetitive headaches.

I have noticed the exact same thing. Typing is only slow on DIS Board.

I'm basically brand new here, but my Internet connection is horrible and this site still loads fast! So I have no idea what your problem might be being caused by.

Mmm.... nahhh.

Mine isn't just typing in a form. It's pulling up pages. It's hitting next. It's waiting on a page for reply. It's going back to the main forum. It's the whole thing.

The traffic I would imagine is less at night, and when I'm up late-late, I zip around a little quicker.

I close and reopen the DIS several times, when I'm on it. It freezes up. I *only* freeze up consistently, here.

I believe that, too. If the browser is trying to loading some of those super flashing/moving ads, I seen it cause the entire page to load at a snail's pace, since it is sucking up so much processing power. That could affect the typing, since the browser is still dealing with loading the ads. On my computer, the other sign is very jerky scrolling.

My computer been at a snail's pace all last week on this site, causing me to reboot a few times. Though in my case, I been seeing this slowdown on other sites (after leaving the DIS), so I may have other issues on my computer.
