Is it Just me?

Ah man - I would have let someone have my donald duck medal especially if they were going to the parks all week.
I actually gave it to my coach when I finished just in case they ran out before all of my teammates got in. I was rushed off to an icebath and couldn't stay to see the true winners come in.
My half girls all came in early enough to get a medal so my coach brought it back to me. He has a funny story about trying to hide it from the girls so they wouldn't know we were worried they wouldn't get one.

In my opinion they should mail medals to the first 500 finishers and save the medals for the athletes that beat the sweepers. They are the true winners - not the guy who glides in at a 7 minute pace. I know most of those guys have drawers full of medals and would have gladly skipped one to make sure that they had enough for everyone.

Kate We must've posted at near the same time, I missed it the first read -

Thank you for sharing your experience - you really are a hero to me!!! and your post really made me tear up and I so am mad all over again at Disney for putting you thru this...

because I became obsessed/focused on the medal I did not know there were characters at our event, and I was so upset that the marathon had so much more - "why did the characters come here for the marathon? Why not for the half??? what am I POND SCUM? (the other names I called myself are not reprintable, but just as hurtful - I truly do have a problem with negative self image perpetuated when things go wrong!! I'm working on it!!)

so thank you so much Cecila for your kind words, its THAT attitude and many other similar actions shown by THIS WISH TEAM that really helped keep me focused!!

and willing to do it all over again!!

I'm probably on the opposite end of the Disney extreme -- I loved the ToT 13K, the Race for the Taste 10K, the Minnie 15K -- even the 5ks and the Danskin Tri I did at WDW. (For the record, I'm also a huge fan of the Not So Scary Halloween Party and the Very Merry Christmas Party -- more Disney extravagances.) I probably love it so much because it is Disney -- and not only do I get to do a good-for-me thing like a race, I get to wear my medal around the parks afterwards riding rides and visiting with running buddies from all over the world.

My sentiments exactly! I loved the TOT race with the exception of parking. What a pain that was. I will be back! THE RFFT was great and the marathon was awesome! Typical Disney, I hopped on a bus at the hotel and didn't have to worry about a thing until I was finished (other than running a marathon).

But not getting medals is pretty bad. They need to make sure that doesn't happen again!
enjoy,
Duane

Well, I think I am going to consider this race.

For me it's really the committment. I travel a LOT on business which makes getting those runs in a little diffcult.

However, I know I am slow and Disney you can consider this your offical warning. If you run out of medals next year, I will probably top some of the previous posters in my anger

To me the BIG issue with the medals is that it's Disney. Let's get real, when you run the Peachtree in Atlanta you run for the T-shirt LOL! Which you then wear to the fireworks that night. When you run Disney you get a medal which you then where to the parks....... At most races you don't really go anyplace or do anything where you can "show off" LOL! So it makes the medal more important since you are going to be seeing folks for the next few days with their medal and KNOWING you should have one too. After the ING I didn't see ANYONE with thier medal around Atlanta for example so it's not as "big" a deal IMHO. (Heck my boyfriend donated a BUNCH to the local Special Olympics folks who recycle them for the kids!)

Now I have to make a note to get my OKW reservation at 11 months!

Glad that you have decided to do this. I know if you stick with the WISH Team, we will do our best to make sure we get you to training somehow even during your travels. We'll think of something!
:teeth:
You WILL get that medal at the end. You will!

:cheer2:

Carol I am right there with you. I sent out my app today and told dh if they "run" out of medals by the time I get there, then he better put up a big stink until they find them and get me one. For me its about the medal as well as the other things.

And I agree, it is totally unexcuseable.
