is it just me or do people not talk about VWL much?

Just curious in reading this board for the past months. (oh and my SS contract is with the closing company as we speak) Why do most people talk about loving OKW, BCV, BWV and not go on and on about VWL? When you go on Tugs top 10 it is there and the Fodors book has a star next to it but I don't hear as much on these boards about it. What are the negatives and positives about it?

Personally, I think it might be because VWL owners are just naturally considerate people and we don't want to make the others feel bad. ;)

Seriously, I think all the villas are wonderful, but VWL just feels like home. Everytime we walk in the lobby, I have to fight the urge to stand there in awe with my mouth hanging open. The quick boat ride to MK, Fort Wilderness, or the Contemporary is also great with small kids like ours since we have a wide variety of kid-friendly activities so conveniently located.

Have you ever heard of Disney's Best Kept Secret? Well, this is the VWL owners BETTER KEPT SECRET! :rotfl2:

We stayed in one of the Villas last Sept (during Hurricane Jeanne) and LOVED it. We decided in January that we wanted to buy into DVC but ONLY if we could get VWL. (and we did!!!) I have no interest in staying anywhere else. It truly feels like HOME!

It's a terrible resort. Don't stay there. Quick, spread the word to others. There's 10 foot snakes, big bugs, black bears, charging moose, sharks in the water. Not to mention the horrible staff, or should I say lack of staff. The whole place looks like a landfill. Shoot outs every night. Public hangings and scalpings. Just a horrible place. You can stay there if you want just thought I would warn you. The reason VWL owners don't talk about it is to keep the resale prices up. Don't believe a word from the previous posts, they're just protecting their investments, you can't really blame them.

We originally bought at BCV, but it has always nagged us we didn't buy at VWL instead. Recently we closed on a VWL add on and I can tell you it felt GREAT to book there 11 months out for spring break!

We have some cool trips coming up - DCL and DL, but I keep thinking about our 8 nights of bliss at VWL come next April.

That place really takes my breath away.

Don't fight it! Just join the rest of us who continue to do just that each time we walk through those lobby doors!

We are diehard Beach Club fans BUT have to admit that we LOVE the Artists Point restaurant at the VWL. We like the lighter decor and the food and service are always divine. It's become something of a tradition for us to eat dinner there after our first visit to the MK.

... but as far as staying there, well, it reminds us too much of home... our 'other' home that is!

We did add on at VWL. We just love being there between Thanksgiving and Christmas and got tired of wait listing at the 7 month mark.

Now with 3 home resorts, we can book BCV for The Flower & Garden and Food & Wine festivals, VWL for our Christmas fix and OKW for those long summer trips all at 11 months out so we can get the days and room sizes we need.

The only negative are those pesky monthly dues!!! :faint: :faint:

We're making our first trip to VWL in August! Very excited especially after hearing all these great comments. We love BCV (our 'home') but have looked round VWL and they look very nice - it's always nice to have a bit of a change anyway! Am looking forward to walking to fort wilderness - love that pizza place there and trails end!

Yeah, I heard it's really going to be bad this December, from the 10th to the 14th - especially the studios & 1 BR's. Everyone who has a current ressie (from 12/10 thru 12/14) should cancel & book @ another resort ASAP. I think all of the DVC rooms will have the dumpster view during 12/10 thru 12/14! ;)

is there a path right in front of the villas (non water side)? but not as far out as the main road? looks like it from the terraserver link

Yes there is a nice walking, riding trail right off the entrance to the Villas.

I have never walked it. I believe it is almost a mile walk. to Fort Wilderness. You can rent bike at the villas and ride over.

The trail was closed the last time we stayed at the villas as it was right after Hurricane Jeanne, and there was some downed trees along the path.

Have fun and enjoy the nature. The outdoor movies at Fort Wilderness were terrffic with a sing along and marshmellow roasting.

Hey Kenny,

The reason they keep it a secret is because it's so quiet and peaceful.... because the buses never come by to pick people up :rotfl2:

Actually we stayed there a few years ago and it was wonderful. I thought I was in northern Wisconsin. We love Whispering Canyon Cafe.

We stayed at FW this past May and rode out bikes over to WL in the morning for breakfast. We're looking forward to the reverse next time. Staying at VWL and going to FW.

I was away at work for the past eight days, and this thread slipped by me... :earseek:

Anyway, VWL may not be the most popular on this board, but I'm convinced that it has the most intense following. Those of us who love VWL, seem to have a stronger attachment to it than other members have to their favorite resort.
That may not be the case, but that's the way it comes across to me.

Oh ya... walking around VWL is the only place I don't like to talk to my wife or guests. I just gotta hear that haunting music... :drinking:
