I am looking for 6-10 points to complete a reservation. So far I have had no luck. Upon reviewing the Rent/Trade Boards it appears that for transfers under 50 points, no one is having any luck. With the new transfer rules is it now impossible to get these transfers?

I'm sure that the enforcement of the one transfer rule has made small transfers harder to get, as most owner that want to transfer to others want to deal with a larger amount of points for their single transfer.

However, you can get lucky with folks wanting to transfer if they only hav a few ponts remaining in their use years.

You might want to try renting a reservation, rather than a transfer, for that last night of your stay.

Or paying cash to MS. Unless it is for one of those special "points only" reservations.

oh it's too bad your going - we've calculated our points for a 12 day trip in May 2009 and we'll have about 8 points left over

i've seen it a few times - people with 6-8 points usually give them away cause it's only 60 bucks.

not sure if i'll bank them or just give them away yet.

I think its much more difficult now.

I have 5 points that I would love to be able to transer to someone, but I cant because I have already transferred points to myself this UY. Those 5 points will expire instead. I cant even transfer them to my other UY because of the 1 transfer rule.

It is hard to use your only transfer unless you are at the end of your UY and know you will not need it. But the person you are transferring to has to realize that this will be their only transfer in a year also.

We have 10 pts left on 2007 with Decmber use year. As it stands now they will probably expire before we use them. We spent Dec 18 - 26, 2007 at OKW and really only visit every other year, meaning our next Disney fix will be in 2009. Tell me more about the transfer as I have never done it before. Any fees or panalties involved?

I feel your pain... we too need a small amount of points to cap off a reservation and the 1 transfer a year rule really puts a kabash on it. Before when I needed a few points it was easy to get them.

If you have points from Dec 2007 they can be banked into your next UY which is good from Dec 2008-Dec 2009 so you would be able to use them in that time frame. This is not a transfer. If you transfer the points to another member or to another contract you own they retain the 2007 use year unless you bank them into the 2008 use year. Some people prefer to transfer points rather than rent out a reservation.

I was able to get a 5 pt transfer by posting on the boards. I did pay a nice price per point but it was still a lot cheaper then paying cash for 1 night. So it is possible.

I guess what I did not convey is that my 10 pts from 2007 would be of no use to us for our 2009 stay. The 10 pts would not get us another day of make us leave a day earlier. In the past all of our stays were at OKW and normally 264 - 296 pts for a week for a 2 BR unit.

If I were to rent one night from someone else, would I have a problem linking it to the rest of my reservation? What if it were a night in the middle of the stay? I would like to do the dining plan the entire time.

This situation is my main issue with the transfer policy. I understand the reason they instituted it, and support the effort to curb commercial renting, but I really think it is too harsh and really limits the community of members ability to manage their points. I think limiting tranfers to 3 or 4 a year would still disrupt any significant use of trasfer for commercial renting, but allow members opportunities to manage their points better.

I agree, especially since we can only do one either way. It is also too bad that Disney can't sell extra points if you need them to finish up a reservation. Like if you are short points for your last night. We also own Fairfield points and we have that option. Granted it is not the cheapest way to go plus there are some restrictions, but it is nice to have that option when you just need a couple of extra points.

Too bad they don't allow unlimited transfers in one direction if the amount is under 10 points (or other small reasonable member). They could limit the small transfers to the same home resort and/or allow only one "small" transfer between the same accounts.

I am pleased that the current transfer limit has pretty much eliminated "point morphing" and curtailed some of the commercial renting, but I wish the rule didn't have quite so many negative effects on the non-point morphing, non-commercial renting membership.

Carol, I think this is an excellent idea! There would need to be a limit because you would have those with thousands of 10 point transfers in a UY:rotfl: kind of how they get around campaign donations:goodvibes

I would be happy with a limit of 2 or 3 small point transfers (10 points or less) in a UY.
That would really help me manage my accounts.

Im afraid DVC would not go for it because each transfer is a manual transaction:mad:

I am in the same position. I need 3 measley points for our trip this summer but I haven't even bothered to post anything on the rent/trade board because I figured that the chances of getting anyone to transfer points to me under the new rules would be slim to none. There are some really great suggestions here...now to figure out a way to implement them!

Just a reminder.

If you are seeking a transfer of points, you may only post the specific request on the Rent/Trade board.

Do NOT post specific transfer requests in THIS THREAD.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Point transfers between multiple accounts owned by the same member should be unlimited.
