I was just wondering from everyones experience. Has anyone booked outside there home resort 7 months out or later and had trouble booking trips? I know our home resort is 11 month out but was just curious as we are thinking of planning a few trips that are not at our home base. Most of the time I am referring too is in the summer late June through mid August. My concern was if I decide to book outside my resort and find out that there is nothing available 7 months out or later has anyone had trouble? I guess my guestion is how difficult is it to book outside your resort and what time frame is suggest? I know 7 months is the earliest I can book.

During that time frame you shouldnt have many problems with on site Dvc resorts at 7 months (4th july may be the exception) Although the nearer you can book to the 7 month point the better. If your looking for BWV standard rooms or Boardwalk view you will probably be out of luck. Being as flexible as you can with dates helps.
If your looking for VB and HH for the summer that will be more difficult for certain views/room types.

I personally havent experienced issues but I havent stayed at our none home resort many times.

From the board - it seems the safest thing to do (if you know when you are going) is to book your home resort at 11 months out. Once you hit the 7 month window, call member services and see what is available at the other resorts.

So - you have the piece of mind that you are all set for your vacation, and then if there is a place you would rather stay - you can check and see if it is available.

I agree with Eric. Book your home resort at 11mos. and then try and switch your ressie over at the 7month mark;)

That being said, difficulty really depends on your dates and where you're trying for. 4th of July as mentioned is difficult but the rest of the summer not so bad unless you want BW or Vero and HH and maybe BCV's too for SAB. But you can always waitlist too. The larger resorts like OKW are usually not very difficult though. If you can be flexible about your dates and/or villa size you won't have much trouble I suspect for most of the DVC's for that time of year. Definitly book at your home resort and then switch over though, that way you have something booked if you can't get what you're looking for elsewhere.
