We are considering the DVC. We think we'll like Beach Club. But, if a good deal comes up, we may consider jumping on say OKW. Say we do this, but want to stay at Beach Club most of the times....

Is there much of a difference in reserving 11months in advance vs 7months?

Other questions:

Could I book 2 rooms at same time with points so that family could come, but not in same room?

Have most people's buy in price maintained its value (given current resale prices ....ex:dvcresale... How much has it decreased? Are prices now a bargain vs from when others bought?

Is it costly or troublesome to book stays not at Disney, Vero, or HH... say in Las Vegas, or Cancun?

When you borrow points, when can you book? 11mo's from when?

If I buy 200 points, but find I only use 150 yearly, can I sell 50 points?

Welcome to the DIS/DVC Boards!!

That depends upon what time of year you want to travel. The Epcot area resorts can be difficult to book during Food & Wine, and all resorts are difficult from Thanksgiving to New Years. If your primary destination is BCV, buy at BCV and book early.

Yes, as long as there is at least there is one adult registered in each room.

Well, I paid $51.50 a point in 1992, so my membership is worth more resale than I paid for it. As far as a timeshare, Disney holds its value pretty well because of Disney's Right of First Refusal. However, they could decide to stop exercising that right at any time, and resale prices would likely drop substantially. Never look at a timeshare, even a name-brand timeshare as an investment..it is a pre-paid vacation plan, and like all timeshares the true value is in your use of it, not the resale market.

Vero and HH are all within the DVC system, there is no cost to use your points at other DVC system resorts. There is a $95 fee to trade your points outside the system, through Interval International or to another non-DVC Disney resort, cruise or Adventure by Disney. The World Passport collection (Interval International) can be difficult, but not usually. Remember, you can trade in only if one of their members trades out. For Las Vegas, hotel rooms are generally reasonable there, usually making DVC trades to Vegas an unwise use of your points.

You can book 11 months from your check-in date at your home resort, 7 months at other DVC resorts. You can borrow points one use year in advance (2009 points can be borrowed to 2008, etc.) but points are only borrowed at the time you make a reservation that would require you to use those borrowed points.

If you purchase a 200 point contract, you can not break it and sell off 50 points, keeping 150. Contracts can not be broken up. You could buy a 150 point contract and a 50 point contract for the same resort and use year. This would function as one contract for booking and reservation purposes, but could be sold separately.
