Is it easier to check in online for your flights?

We are flying delta and i was just wondering is it easier to check in online or check in at the airport and how does online check in work ?

100x yes.

1) you can pre-pay for your checked baggage. if you pay at the airport, i believe it costs $5 more per bag.

2) you can print your vouchers, so when you get to the airport you just have to scan them at the self-automated kiosk. then you check your bags and wait through the security checkpoint.

3) if you cant print your vouchers - no worries! just slide the card you purchased the tickets with into the kiosk at the airport and it will re-print your boarding pass.

I usually just wait until I get to the airport unless there are additional bag fees involved. But I saw an incident in May that changed my mind. I was on a flight on Continental and we were all seated on the plane ready to go. The pilot mentioned our flight being longer because of having to fly around weather. Then the gate agent came on board and asked for 2 volunteers to give up their seats. No one did so he came back and picked 2 people to be taken off. He said they were the last to check-in at the airport. I assumed it had something to do with weight & balance due to the extra flight time due to the weather. So now I will always do online check-in. I always thought if you had a seat assignment you would not be bumped but it can happen. These 2 people were already sitting in their seats.

I agree 100%. Once you check in online for Delta, you'll never again wait to do it at the airport.

Definitely check-in on-line. You can have your boarding passes ready before getting to the airport and you can pay for your luggage and save some money on that. You will just have to go to the curbside desk or the kiosk inside to get the baggage claim tickets printed by an agent, leave your luggage and its off to security. We have don this every trip and it saves time and is much more convenient. We will be doing our check-in on-line in less than three weeks.

By checking in online, you will have your seats assigned before getting to the airport. I have seen too many overbooked planes and those that don't have a seat assignment, are the first to get bumped unwillingly. Just because you have picked out seats doesn't mean they are yours. When you have the boarding pass in your hand with your seat assignment, then the seats are yours. This is the best way for you to almost ensure you'll be on that plane, there are of course circumstances out of your control, but this is the best control YOU can have to ensure your seats.

Are you flying out of Detroit? If so, there is a really LONG line for check in and a relatively short line for those who already have boarding passes and want to check their luggage. If you just have carry on luggage, you won't even have to wait in that line but can go straight to security.

I always check in online.
