If you are adding a small number of points, it could be difficult to get your same use year and desired resort plus you will have to pay closing costs. Then of course, you have to go through ROFR and HOPE you manage to get those points after several months of process. If you buy direct from Disney, there will be no closing costs, and you will have access to the points as soon as you put something down on them. On the other hand, if you are buying a larger number of points equivalent to a whole contract, then it might make sense to go the resale route where you will have closing costs, but not likely to be much more than they would be for a small contract, and the price per point could be low enough to counteract the cost of the closing fees.
