The one thing that confuses me about the whole Valerie Plame case is. What about the guy who wrote the article that outed her? Does he face any potential legal action? I mean he DID out her. Or is it freedom of the press or whatever?

The reporter in question, Robert Novak, has been a Bush shill for many years now. I asked that same question with friends when this first broke and we thought that there are really two possibilities that make sense (and please keep in mind that this is conjecture);

1. Novak sang like a jailbird in the investigation in order to avoid prosecution himself.
2. Having provided nothing but favorable PR for the administration during the entire Bush administration, he was not a target of the administration.

Novak has refused to answer any questions in public about his involvement, going so far as to walk off a live broadcast two months ago uttering an obscenity when someone else tried to broach the topic with him on camera.

I'm curious to know what everyone thinks of the whole Plame affair, and whether or not those involved should still be indicted if they perjured themselves or obstructed justice during the investigation, even if they aren't found guilty of revealing a covert operative as the original investigation was out to prove.

Absolutely. In this case, I think we should all look to the Republicans for guidance. They set precedence during Clinton's years, so we absolutely MUST follow their example. If saying "I did not have sex with that woman" is considered perjury and obstructed justice, then the same principles should hold true for the current administration. If it is found that any member of the current administration perjured or obstructed justice, then we must indict.

And as Mugg Mann presented above, Bush himself has said that he is in favor of punishment for anybody found to be involved in the Plame affair. We must follow our President's wishes.

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"

That sounds like something that Cindy Sheehan would have said this past summer, right? Think about all the criticism she got for asking the President to do exactly that. Well, Cindy wasn't the source of the quote. It was actually Sean Hannity on 4/6/99 on Fox News complaining about Clinton's decision to go into Bosnia.

Okay, round 2. Who said the following.....?

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."

Definitely someone criticizing the President's lack of planning in Iraq, right? Nope, this time it was Karen Hughes, the spokesperson for Presidential candidate George W. Bush criticizing Clinton's decision to go into Bosnia.

Okay, last round for now......

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."

Why, that would be Texas Governor George W. Bush himself, talking in his capacity as a candidate for the Presidency about then-President Clinton!

If Bush is impeached, then Cheney becomes president and Condi Rice becomes VP. However, if Cheney is forced to resign prior to Bush being impeached due to the indictments, then Rice becomes VP.

So, if Bush is impeached, Cheney resigns -we end up with Condi Rice as our president.

Now, wouldn't that set the Republican Party on edge -

and if that veritable source of well researched and true journalism - the National Enquirer is to believed - (or was it the Globe - whatever was sitting in the rack by the check out line).

It might actually be a breath of fresh air. Maybe we could finally get some decent and fair legislation for the gay community.

Interesting? Not really. We've heard it all before. Donkeys and Elephants say exactly the same things (sometimes the exact quote) about each other ad nauseum. Only difference is the faces change every now and then and occasionally someone goes down kicking and screaming for our entertainment. The Gingrich show was fun, as was the Torrecelli show. The Delay show is on hiatus. I suspect Mr. Cheney is next on the program schedule.

And why was this? Because the Bush administration appealed to the pro-gun, pro-life, anti-gay, anti-semetic populous, which sadly makes up more than 1/2 of the nation. I don't think he was voted in justly - he was voted in b/c to the majority of our population, he stood for what "they" believe in and knew that the other guy (Kerry) was not going to support many of the values they do. JMO.

ETA: Personally I think the lines between church and state have never been so blurred since the Bush adminitration took office. And that scares me. It's just baffles me that many of our voters "forget" that this is a nation that encompasses ALL. We are America - a melting pot. White, black, asian, hispanic, christian, jewish, muslim, atheist, pagan, etc. But maybe this is a topic for another thread...

My take on the whole Plame outing...............what the hell were they thinking? I used to think it was a vicious plan to get back at Joe Wilson for straying off the reservation. Now, I'm starting to believe the administration backed into this one accidently. By trying to get back at Wilson, they inadvertently outted a CIA agent and then the fun began.

I am truly enjoying watching these sorry chickenhawk sacks of **** squirm with the realization the old mojo just ain't working anymore.

This whole affair stinks of arrogance and now hubris.

Rice is down on the line of who succeeds as president. Actually, Denny Hastert (speaker of the House) comes after Cheney. Of course, Cheney could resign for the good of the country............excuse me........... ................okay, I'm back.............and then Dubya could appoint Rice as VP.

However, my opinion is it isn't going to happen. If Bush falls, he takes his whole sorry excuse of an administration with him. I believe his support in Congress is for one reason and one reason only......political coattails. Take away the coattails and you take away the support. The election (?) of 2000 taught the country one thing: You can rewrite the rules when and if you want and this time it isn't going Bush's way.
