Is it a hassle to have '2' use years?

August is my use year. If I were to add on points, but the use year is October, can I still book 11 months out based on the August use year?

And what if the points were for a different resort? If I needed 200 points, 150 from August UY resort and 50 from October UY resort, would I be able to book 11 months out from the August UY but using both sets of points?

1) use year has nothing to do with when you can book. zero. nothing at all.
2) technically, you can't "add-on" with a different use year. if you have a different use year, you would have two master contracts - i.e. you'd have to buy a new contract or a resale.

having 2 master contracts means if you book a resort at 7 months out for one night, you cannot combine pts from both contracts without transferring pts from one to the other.

And what if the points were for a different resort?

home resort dictates when you can call to book. if it's a different resort, you'd have to wait till 7 months out to use those pts at your first/master home resort.

if they are both the same home resort, yes, you can book 11 months out (again, use year doesn't matter). you would have to transfer pts between the contracts to pool points to book a single night...or else book 5 nights with one contract and a separate reservation for 2 nights with the next (or whatever) and then ask MS to link those separate reservations.

IMO, yes it's a hassle.

OTOH, if you usually travel at different times of the year...it might be helpful to have 2 banking windows. but it is definitely more to keep track of.

Booking window has nothing to do with use year...they are 11 months/7 months before check-in.

You may not combine ponts from two different resorts during the 11 month priority window, only at 7 months or less. Also, they will be totally separate memberships. You can not combine points for any one night without using your annual transfer for both memberships to transfer from one membership to the other.

We have two use years, February and December, at our home resort. The only challenge we have had is when there is an odd number of points for a trip. In other words you can not mix use year points for a one night stay. For example if it takes 20 points for one evening you can't use 12 points from one use year and 8 points from the other for that one night. All 20 points would have to be from the same use year. However, if your staying 7 nights, 4 of those nights could use the points from one use years and 3 nights from the other.

Otherwise we have not had any real difficulties with our two use years. Since our first trip way back when it has been a breeze using the 11/7 month windows. There has been a couple times we've had to borrow points from the next year or transfer points between use years. It's been no big deal.

We had two UY's last year, Oct and June, at two different resorts, BLT and VWL.

One was for 130 points and the other was for 50 points. We didn't like it and sold VWL so that all the points would be at BLT and all in a June UY.

As others have said, plays no role in when you can book. It does play in which points will be eligible for your vacation.

But, when you own different UY's, you can not combine the points for a single nights reservation without a transfer.

When we started planning our 2010 summer trip (last year), we realized that we could not book all 6 nights at 11 months without borrowing from one of the contracts. My 50 points at VWL, were not enough for two nights, so I could only do 1. My 130 BLT points were not enough to book 5 nights, only 4.

If you can avoid it, I would. However, some people like the different UY's because they travel at different times and this allows all their trips to remain in those first 8 months of one of the contract.

We have a larger contract with 275 points and a smaller one with 50 points, two different UY. Every year we transfer the 50 points to the larger contract so we can use them more easily. You can't use points from one UY for part of a night. But once you transfer them, they become part of the other contract (they keep the resort and UY month, though).

IMHO having more than one UY is a pain in the butt and increases the chance of you making a mistake that my cause you to forfeit points.

Keep your life simple and stick to one UY.

We have two use years and it is no issue to manage at all. As mentioned above you will have two different membership numbers and use year plays no role in the 11 month booking advantage.

I have an August UY. I have changed my mind and now believe a February UY would better suit my family. But in the name of keeping things simple, I added on another August UY to make record keeping simple.

I currently have three contracts. OKW 230 pts, AKV 75 pts and AKV 50 pts. All 3 have an April UY. I am currently waiting on a ROFR for a 50 pt contract at HHI with an Oct. UY. I have always wanted to maintain the same UY, but we have been waiting for a small HHI add on to come along. We missed out on 1 a few weeks ago and didn't want to do it again. We figure it will take a little getting used to, but once we get the hang of it it should be okay.

Your transferred in points keep their home resort (for 11-month booking priority) and UY (for banking and expiration purposes). You can combine all your points for reservations at the 7 month window. But your BW points have 11 month window at BW and your OKW points have 11 month window at OKW.

Transferred points retain their home resort and UY, so you would not be able to combine those points until the 7 month window.

If you have two different UY's but the same resort, then once the transfer happens, you could combine the points.
