Is Hilton Head a good place to visit with a 2 1/2 year old?

Not looking to buy but just want to plan a beach trip in the next few months (I'd like to try to surprise husband if I can). I'm trying to decide if I should rent points from a member for DVC Hilton Head or just go to Myrtle Beach instead. My son, the 2 1/2 year old has been to Disney about 4 times now (the last time being a few weeks ago in June). I'm wondering if all the Disney icons at Hilton Head would only make me/us wish we were actually at Disney World or if it would just add to the charm of being at the beach. If anyone has any opinions, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

P.S. What seasons are the better point value at DVC Hilton Head.

Thanks again!

the Island of Hilton Head is a wonderful destination. It is in no way could be compared to myrtle beach. Is there as much tourist things to do at HHI than MB? No, but that is why it is nice. I drive the extra 4 hours to go the HHI just because MB has become what it is today. Anyway, Disney's HHI resort is just as charming as the Island. They have some of the best Cast Members in the entire Disney company. HHI is not loaded with characters or lots of theme park icons. You probally will not even think of the parks while you are there. They did the resort as having a few little hints that Mic, and Minnie have been there before. Part of the fun is finding the signs and clues and hidden Mickeys for your self. If you know who the artist Bob Timberlake is, then HHI resort will make you think that he designed the place for Disney, even though he did not have anything to do with it. It is just his style of colors and architecture. I think your child will love it. Mine was 8 months old when he went for the 1st time and he had a great time. We were even able to take him to some of the nicer rest. around because he behaved so well.

Hilton Head is much more low key than Myrtle Beach....but I don't know what you're looking for as far as entertainment for a 2 1/2yo. If the beach and pool are good enough HH is fine. I think most of the resort activities are geared to older kids.

HH did make me miss WDW a little....but when we went I was too pregnant to want to drive 6-7 hours to WDW. It was a nice reminder and felt like "home" because of all the Disney touches.

i like to go in September and early Oct. It is still pretty warm, but the crowds are gone. The resort has not been at capacity at these times in the past. Now that the DVC has sold out, I do not know if it is still a low time or not. I will be there from 9/12-9/17 on a cash stay. You can call the resort and get a rate. I think they give AAA discounts among others. a 2 bedroom in Sep has gone for around 179-250 per nite in the past. A 1bedroom and studio would be even less. These may be harder to get because there are so few of these.

2 other HHI resorts that I have stayed in that I really like. (these are hotels, not timeshares) are the Westin-very upscale, and the Crowne Plaza.-nice colorful rooms. Both are on the beach and have nice pools.

I have never rented points before, so I can't help you there.

Sept and October are almost on season - November is consider less in points - of choice the change of it turning colder is there too.

Dec and Jan are the least in points.

the Marriott's Grand Ocean resort at HH is pretty wonderful!!! of course with a fast child - he could be in the ocean before you turned around.....

DVC's HH is not on the ocean - you have to walk, bike, take their van, or drive over to ocean. So probably safer for a child of this age.

Thanks everyone and yes Spiceycat my son is a wildman I have to hold his hand everywhere, even just from the front door of our house to the driveway to get in the car or he'd be running out into the street in a second.

We've been going for years with young children. What I like best is the low-key atmosphere.

The Cast Members are some of the nicest you'll meet within DVC.

I especially like the layout of the resort - a series of 2 & 3 story buildings with nicely landscaped open areas all around. It is so different from the larger hi-rise, beachfront hotels. Its location on the bay gives it a special flavor and access to an important part of what the "low-country" is all about.

The lack of Disney iconography may be a plus. I have (very few) non-Disneyholic friends who find it a nice mix of both worlds.

Go for it.

P.S. It's our home resport and we are considering whether to bank our remaing 76 points or rent/transfer them. Let me know if you're interested.
