Is Hell Freezing over?

I work with a Republican who is leaning Obama b/c of Palin. She hasn't totally decided but likes Palin less each time she hears her speak.

I was never going to vote for McCain, but I was impressed with Palin that first day. When she winked in the debate, however, I was embarrassed for her and for any Americans who think that could even remotely be appropriate.

North Carolina is considered a toss-up, which is very unusual. I live in one of the areas, however, that McCain will carry for sure. My household is registered "unaffiliated," and we're getting an amazing amount of mail from the Republican senate and congressional candidates. For the record, most of it is negative and paid for by PACS -- I'm one of the people who always looks to see who's spending the $. So far we're only getting robo calls from the McCain campaign, but I expect that will pick up,too. Nothing from the dems except calls from volunteers urging us to vote for the congressional candidate.

Since I already voted, I hope hell doesn't freeze over.

I like where Obama is going with his tax plan. I hope he can make it happen.

We are getting killed in taxes since I'm married and don't have any write-offs.

The Wall Street Journal article explaining Obama's tax plan makes me wonder if across the board tax cuts will ever come to fruition.

In my neck of the woods, people who were long-term, Union member, staight Dem. voters are going over to McCain.

I was so embarrassed when I saw that! I just cringed :headache: I couldn't believe it was happening in a real debate, not a parody!

And then we're expected to take her seriously :sad2:

I'm another conservative christian who has moved over to the Democratic side this year. I've voted republican for the last 3 out of 4 presidential elections, but not this year.

I've been leaning democratic since McCain won the primary b/c I really didn't like him, but when he picked Palin as his running mate that was the clincher for me.

I'd probably like her in real life if I met her, I just don't think she should be holding the second highest office in our nation.

Actually, I'm a little disturbed that McCain would think so little of evangelical christians that he would throw just anyone on the ticket.

I convinced my Jewish grandparents to vote for Obama, and quite a few of my republican and undecided relatives have switched to Obama after listening to Palin speak.

NPR was talking about the great schlep to Florida Jewish Grandchildren are making to convince there Grandparents to vote for Obama. The whole story really moved me.

My mom, who has NEVER voted Democrat in her life is voting for Obama. I almost got her to vote for the Democrat running against Rick Santorum, but she said she just couldn't make herself vote for Bob Casey. She doesn't like McCain and she DESPISES Palin. The debate really pushed her over the edge as far as Palin goes. She had already planned to vote for Obama before that, but the cutsiness (is that a word?) and everything including her voice just pushed all my mom's buttons, the wrong ones.

Two of my cousins were strong Republicans, they both said last week they are voting for Obama. Palin seems to be their concern.

Another convert here - I still haven't decided, but Palin could make me vote for a Democrat for the first time in what will be 11 presidential elections!

I great schlepped with my brother and some cousins. We came armed with an empty threat of no visits until 2012. I even hewbrewfied myself for it.

We succeeded.

My wife’s grandfather is and 80(something) veteran who loves god, country, and family. This man is very traditional; he is not at all liberal.
Once during a grace for a gathering, he asked for God to give our legislator’s strength to vote against some gay/lesbian marriage/civil union bill.
His wife has had to hide the paper when his granddaughter’s less then flattering editorials on Bush have been printed.
Anyways, I had to grab a chair when he announced at after church brunch, That he was voting for Obama.

Just had a discussion with some friends about this. My friend mentioned that she always votes Democratic....her DH and DD vote Republican. This year....all three for Obama. Another friend then mentioned that she normally votes Dem....her DH votes Repub.....this year both for Obama. Me and DH voted Republican the last two elections....this year we're both for Obama.

So, I think it's a trend. I had pretty much made up my mind for Obama, but the Palin pick sealed the deal for me. McCain's choice showed me that he'll cave into the fundamentalist christians, and I just don't identify with that group at all. As long as the Republican party has that face, I will no longer vote that way.

Sarah Palin turning out to be a completely unqualified pick was really just the icing on the cake for me.

My uber-conservative, ultra-right parents are now saying that they feel they have to vote for Obama. Palin as potential President has them scared. They think that she's just "absolutely adorable!" but they don't consider her capable of running this country.

I occasionally listen to a local Republican, right wing talk radio host out of Anchorage. On today's show, he said that Sarah Palin has "demonstrated she is incapable of telling the truth and will go to any lengths to lie" and that John McCain's choice of her as a running mate shows a lack of decision making ability. It sounds like he's going to be voting for a third party candidate...but I was agreeing with him for the first time ever. Hell has frozen over. Two years ago, this guy had Sarah Palin on his show every other day and was singing her praises. Today, he's stopping just short of calling for her impeachment and he has called for her removal from the Republican ticket.
