Is food allowed on the busses?

Will we be able to eat a snack on the bus from the airport or eat a light breakfast on the bus in the mornings?

I know that the buses within WDW have a no food or drink policy. I'm pretty sure that it would be the same for DME buses. I have seen people get on the bus at their resort with their coffee and had the driver tell them to keep the coffee closed.
I would imagine that they want to try to keep the buses as clean as possible. I can just imagine what would happen if everyone tried to save time by eating a meal on the bus....it could turn the buses into garbage skows. And no, I'm not saying that you, or your family, would be guilty of this. Just repeating what drivers have told me in the past. So..no eating or drinking on the buses.

Bummer!! I figured as much. I will make sure the kids eat something before we get on the bus. They get real cranky when they are hungry.

Some drivers may let it slide. You may wind up waiting for a bus, it's ok to bring a snack as long as you're willing to either throw out your food or wait for the next bus you won't have an issue.

Bring a zip lock type bag and/or a lid for the beverage cup so if the bus arrives before you are finished, you don't have to throw it out.

My DS and I ate on the way to the airport in August. He had Mickey waffles without syrup and I had a danish and coffee nothing was said to us and the bus driver saw us getting on. Other people had drinks that I saw. Don't know the policy for sure though. call Mears and ask.

The technical policy is that Food & Drink are not allowed aboard Disney Transport or DME buses. The reason being twofold... trash, and crumbs. The trash makes the bus look dirty, and the crumbs attract roaches.

You may encounter a driver that might let it slide... and if so, PLEASE make sure to be clean, and throw out all trash, and not let anything spill.

While that may have been your experience, the rule is still no food or drink on the buses. When a former bus driver tells us the WDW rule, why would we not take his word? Better to eat where you are supposed to eat rather than have a driver, who would be correct, ask you to cease and desist. I have had drivers tell people no food, no drinks..please close them up until you get off the bus. But, then again...I tend to err on the side of overkill...hate being singled out.

we had our mugs with us on the bus one day and my kids were told to keep the lids closed till we got off....that it wouldn't be fair if everyone else followed the rules while they sipped away. My ds asked "Why can't everyone drink on here, sir?" The reply was, "How would you feel if we hit a bump and your drink splashed onto someone else? Then they'd have to be sticky all day long." Ds replied that he wouldn't want to be sticky all day with someone else's pop all over him...and the driver replied "So that is why!"

I think many drivers didn't say anything because they were concentrating on driving safely, or didn't want guests to go off on them (happens sometimes!) I would hope that people would just obey rules, even if they are NOT being actively enforced. They are actively posted, and that should be enough.

OP, great question. It is actually one I haven't seen on here, in the couple of years I have read the DISboards!!

We have had coffee (in cups with lids) or juice boxes on the buses and no one has ever said anything to us, in fact it was a pretty common thing to see people with coffee early in the morning. Of course,we always clean up after ourselves and don't leave a mess. My children have also had water bottles with them that they may have had a drink out of ,too.

How great that your kids were able to get the scoop right from the driver and that the driver made sense to them!!! I agree that many drivers just don't want to be negative, so hope that people won't make a mess. But, I have to say that I have seen people leave behind some trash after they were done eating/drinking. It would seem that there are some out there who feel that it is someone's job to clean up after them.
And I would think that most drivers won't say anything about drinking from juice boxes or covered coffee cups. But, accidents to happen. And I can imagine how irate someone might get if they wanted to eat their McMuffin on the bus but were told they couldn't and pointed out someone else eating a granola bar. I know...picky, picky. Most of us are pretty good and respectful of others. But, not everyone is that good.

When I see a CM post 'the rule' as well as a moderator I trust and respect voice the same rule, I tend to take it as fact.

I think that some readers get offended by 'the facts' and think that there should be pixie dust floating around all the time.

Frankly, I would rather know the rules up front, rather than be surprised by them and have to change plans mid stride.

How about if a current driver say's this.

I didn't reply earlier as Tyler summed it up perfectly.

On my bus, I'll deny boarding to open drinks or any sort of alcoholic beverage. I'll let you slide with a covered drink, but I'll usually ask that you don't drink it while on board.

of course I would trust a current driver's word too - so now 3 of my trusted sources have posted the rule that I have heard every time I have ridden a bus at WDW over the past 14 years.....

One of our bus drivers said this, during our March trip. He was so friendly, he made the ride very "Disney."

In my experience No.

We rode the buses every day during our trip from 4/6 and 4/15 and every time the driver announced no food or drink, stay seated and if your standing hold the handrails.

If your kids really need something to eat or drink before you get on the ME bus consider taking a short break in the airport prior to boarding the ME bus. There is a nice waiting area where you check in to ME with comfy chairs and sofas and tables. The kids and one adult can sit and relax, have a snack etc while the other adult checks in. Then when your ready just head for the ME bus.

Ummm yeah that's not gonna work either... usually after about 20 min they get restless in a car we give them a snack... god... this is gonna suck.. maybe I'll look up car rentals.
