Is Flight of the Hippogriff anything like Big Thunder Mountain?

Sorry if I misunderstood your post. Just that it seems many (just saw another) come here to bash Universal. Saying something is a rip off isn't making a comparison to a ride.

As I said, I enjoyed both WDW and Universal.

OP said her child is having ride anxiety and wanted a comparison. Like I said, this is a kiddie coaster and he should have no fear of it.

WWOHP, in fact most of Universal/IOA is more about the theming and the total experience.

No, I thought it was a rip-off compared to BTMRR, because the ride was so short.

I don't bash Universal; actually quite the opposite. I actually speak up when someone bashes US/IOA on the other side of the boards. We could ride MIB and ROTM all day long:). We only managed FJ once, because our dates ended up being during the grand opening and it was CRAZY busy, but we will hit it a few times this year for sure. The butterbeer made me sick, but I'm sure that was just me.

What is really sad is like OP's DS.. I actually get ride anxiety and I am 38! I am not a fan of the feeling of falling or my stomach dropping, and I dislike even Goofy's Barnstormer but am willing to do it for the kids!

Thanks for letting me know!

I stated those same sentiments on a thread a month or so ago. Perfect!

I just had a sense of belonging and contentment doing just that. Unlike running around like a chicken with my head cut off at MK.

I liked Epcot for the same reasons.

I'm not a Potter fan -- never read the books or seen the movies. But I agree here -- even thought I'm not a fan, I really appreciated the theme and attention to detail here. It's a great place to just hang, especially during the early entry for hotel guests when it's not too crowded, and just enjoy all the small touches.

This section rivals anything at Disney in terms of detail.

I didn't say I didn't love US/IOA. We are going there, along with WDW in August. I enjoyed FJ and the theming of the WWOHP; I just didn't think the Hippogriff was any fun. The OP was asking if the ride was like BTMRR and it definitely isn't.

I totally agree. I thought the Unicorn coaster it replaced was pretty weak too, but it is good for little ones, which I guess that's who it's geared towards anyway. I went on BTMRR for the first time last year and loved it !

Jumping in late with my two cents. It's a tame coaster like BTMRR, in that it doesn't toss you upside down and round and round (boy ya turn me...sorry). It doesn't have the thematic elements that BTMRR has either. It does have an animatronic Hippogriff that you have to bow to.
Now, someone said my Unicorn was lame....PUHLEASE! It was (IMO) much better than the version now, themeing wise. Ride wise, it's the same thing. Merlin found a horn of a Unicorn, and the wings of a giant butterfly and created the flying Unicorn! It was outfitted with bad faeries hoof prints, it was inspired! Now it's Hagrids hut which is okay if you like those types of things.:wizard:

If you are a Potter nerd then you will love this park section. I literally could have sat there for days sipping butterbeer and looking at all the theming around.

Be sure to use the restrooms when the crowds are lower (early am or late) you can hear moaning myrtle's voice. ;)

:thumbsup2 Now I really can't wait!

Buckbeak is also in the queue for Hippogriff. LOL obviously us Potter nerds love it. Although I'm a fan of Merlin et al.

Fantasmic, I loved the theme music playing in the background. Be sure to look in all the windows, closely. The Three Broomsticks has neat stuff and if you don't mind the fee, the ATM actually says Gringotts!

It was so well themed and actually so is the Lost Continent, Jurassic Park and Toon Lagoo. Well all of it really but WWOHP was just like walking into one of the books or the movies.

We were at WWOHP last week...man it was PACKED!!! Our 12 year old sons totally loved the experience. One of our sons uses a wheelchair for long distances and has issues with big coasters. BTMRR at MK is his favorite ride, most absolutely (as in multiple rides per day whever we are in MK). He totally loved the Hippogriff - gave him enough of a thrill. Only complaint was that it was too short. His solution? Just ride it 8 times as quickly as possible! Good thing we were staying onsite and could just work our way through the express line, over and over and over and over...
