Yes, I guess it all depends on one's knowledge of theatrical casting traditions as to how "distracting" the actual gender of characters would be.

I understand the reasoning behind using a female for Nemo, but I personally would rather hear a male voice even if it didn't sound like a child.
Having a woman playing a boy's part seems to be a time-honored tradition, all the way back to Mary Martin playing Peter Pan!
