We have never been to Fantasmic because some of our friends said it was too scary for small children. Our youngest is 6 years old and we were thinking about trying it on our next trip. What does everyone think about it?

My girls are almost 2 and 4. They were fine. If I was five my Dad would have had to pull me out after the first 5 minutes. I then would have been catatonic. I think you know your kids best. If the scare easy I would say sit close to the edge and remind them it has a happy ending.

I worked Fantasmic on my CP and I've seen alot of parents have to leave with their little kids due to them being scared.

Its loud and the villans are there and are after Mickey and there is a HUGE snake and dragon that comes out.
so some kids get scared.

I would try to tell them that it will all be ok and Mickey wins and all the bad guys will go away and that if they leave they will miss Mickey Mouse and all the other characters when they come out.
But some are just so scared that they rather just leave :(

But then there are other kids who love it!!!

Just depends on the kids.
So you wont really know unless you try with yours.
Good luck!!! :thumbsup2

Mickey Always Wins... he started it all, he in fact pays a lot of salaries. who wants to make the boss look bad?

You won't be able to have a 100% guarantee unless you see it for yourself, but I'd say its a small percentage of kids that would be too scared. If you are worried, just sit further in the back. My philosophy is that it's a better bet that your child would feel more comfortable when there's a few hundred people sitting between them and the action, in the middle of a crowd, than sitting up front which could be a little overwhelming. It's a huge amphitheater. (there's safety in numbers, ha-ha)
I also like the advice of the person earlier about how to prepare your child. When the scary snake or villian comes out, you could laugh and say "look at the that silly snake, just wait until Mickey gets him..."

Its no so much that its scary (for my kids) but its very loud. At times there is loud bangs & that bugged my kids more when they were little. Sit towards the back & maybe get them kids earplugs if you think this will be an issue for your kids.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I also like the idea from mommykds about the ear plugs. DS would definitely not like the very loud noises, but I think the rest of the show sounds like it would be ok. Maybe we'll try to sit a little back as well so it will help.

(BTW, you've been to Disney 25 times and never saw Fantasmic! ????)

Yeah, RoBo, I hate to admit it but as many times as we've been to WDW, we have just never taken the time to see it. Then after we had our first DS, everyone said they would be too scared. I think the loud noises would be our worst problem though. Our next trip is in a couple of weeks and I think we're going to give it a try. Thanks for the links as well!

I have seen many kids taken out of Fantasmic. It can be very intense for kids in that age range.

We took my nephew to see it when he was five, and he kept on saying that he didn't want to see it. I wound up buying him a Mickey Mouse light, and I told him that I got it from Mickey, and all's he had to do was hold it up high inm the air when he was scared, and Mickey would protect him. When things got too intense for him, he held that light up high, and he made it through.

As others have said, you know your kids best. If they scare easy, you might want to skip it for another trip. If they take the villians in stride when watching the movies, give it a try. And be prepared to take them out if it does get too intense for them (nothing can stress out a family and ruin an experience for a parent, a child, and those around them like a kid being forced to do something they don't want to do).

I would also highly recommend ear plugs if loud would be a problem. Our DD6 and DS7 love this show. DS7 has autism and doesn't like loud sounds so we had earplugs and he did fine. They weren't scared by the storyline just a little taken aback by the fire, even sitting near the back you can feel the heat.

I read it in Birnbaums book a few years ago and did not go for our first time til last year (my DS was almost 5 at the time). He had no problems with it. There are some fire effects and at times Mickey is in "danger", but my son had no issues wit it at all.

I took my DS when he was 3. I was just sure to explain to him that Mickey was never in danger and would win in the end before the show ever started. He did fine. Good luck! It really is an incrediable show!

my 7, 4, and 2 yr olds did gtreat.....BUT we did a lot of preping before we went - loys of talks and we definately told then before about the dragon and the magic fighting.

I went to fantasmic my last disney trip. The only scary part is when the dragon comes out but that wasn't to sacary for me and I'm 11
