Hi everyone, I just decided I needed some help with my attempts to loose this roll I have above my jeans...and around my thighs...and....ok, I won't go there....Anyway!

It seems everyone here is on one diet or another...I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that is just choosing to eat "right" (kinda what I was planning on doing) and wondered how it's going.

I'm a vegitarian, and the only obvious dairy I eat is yogurt, and occasionally some ice cream (rocky road is my poison of choice, but only when I've been really, really good)

Could some of you give me some insight on what you think of this. I would really, really appreciate it! :)

Have a great night!
Robin :wave2:

I am not "dieting"! I have changed the way I eat forever. I am not following a set plan. I'm eating sensibly and staying under 1200 calories every day with one cheat day a week where I try not to go crazy  but do have anything I want. It's working so far - I'm down 47 lbs. The important thing is to find the plan that works for you and stay with it. ::yes:: Maybe some other Wishers are Vegetarians and can offer more help with plans that have worked for them. Welcome to WISH!

I wrote my own diet on a spread sheet.

I think I figured out why diets don't work for me ( i hope)

They all have foods in them that I don't normally eat, so it just feels 'wrong' and I can't stay on them.

So, I wrote my own diet....I have 5 choices for breakfast, each 100 calories, 5 choices for AM snack, each 100 calories 5 choices for lunch, 300-400 calories 5 choices for PM snack, 1-200 calories, then I eat a 'reasonable dinner' with reasonable portion sizes and I don't eat bread at dinner, just meat and veggies. And, nothing to eat after dinner. And I only drink water or carbonated water.

I have a few more rules in there, but that about sums it up. I figure I am eating anywhere from 1000-1500 calories a day. I have lost about 7 pounds in the last week and a half.

Because I am eating so frequently, I really never get hungry, and they are all foods I would normally eat anyway, just more portion controlled.

I am hoping this works!!

I also just eat sensibly. I basically eat whatever I want, but in moderation. I keep to under 1200 calories a day, and I drink plenty of water. I also exercise every day now, although I didn't start of exercising everyday!! :teeth: Following my own rules seems to be working for me. So far I have lost over 90 pounds, 75 of which I have lost since I joined WISH in Aug '03.

Good luck to you in whatever you decided to do. Hope to see you here often! ::yes::

I don't do well with prescribed eating plans either In the short run, they are ok, but I quickly tire of them and wind up right back where I started from. For me, it is much better to just eat sensibly and get some exercise. Making subtle, yet imortant changse are ther key for me. Slowly adding healthy foods, and gradually eliminating unheathy habits will serve me better over the long haul. Good luch whatever you decide to do. There are lots of great people on this board, with heaps of experience in all sorts of healthy approaches. Just keep visiting and ask lots of questions. You'll find what's right for you.

Keep the Faith!

Have those who are eating less than 1200 calories checked with their doctors? Mine told me not to go below 1200

I have to agree with the others - I've changed the way I eat for the rest of my life. I generally eat low-carb. The great thing about WISH is that we all support each other in finding whatever works - we're all different, but we're still like one big family! :D

Best wishes in finding what works for you and welcome to WISH!

Hi Robin,

We aren't Vegan, because we eat white meat and dairy products, but we do stay away from red meat so things like Atkins don't work around here. I have choosen as well as the other posters to eat sensibly. Therefore, I eat mainly smaller portions of the things I KNOW I shouldn't be binging on if I want to lose any weight (like candy bars and ice cream I am also partial to Rocky Road):earseek: Then I watch my calories big time example breakfast has to be on the way out the door, so it's a cup of coffee (a must have, thankfully I like it black), and a green apple, lunch is usually a salad, then I have a small healthy snack before dinner, a reasonable dinner (we are big soy eaters at dinner (soy burgers, protein crumbles and so forth), and we also like BIG dinners so that's where I accumulate most of my calorie intake so I have to watch the rest of the day  Of course then I add in my exercise which I am trying to do daily (and am happy to see I am losing inches) and I'm a happy me!

Good luck on your sensible eating journey and keep in touch! A little pixie dust headed your way to help you find a plan that's right for you! :wizard:

My husband and I follow the Atkins way of eating and have taken it as our lifetime plan. So far so good, we started in January, 2003 and are much healthier because of it.

If you check out our member roster you can scan the list to see how many WISHers are "eating sensibly". Then you can tailor any questions posted on the board to that group. There are many WISHers "eating sensibly" so I imagine you will get plenty of advice when you ask.

I'm not Vegan so I can't offer any advice on that topic.

Wow, I did get responses! Hehehehe, I have to remember that when I get a new dis name, I also use a different email address!

:) (I used another name because I have friends and family that are always on the dis, and I want to do this on my own, without the looks, or the "should you be eating that" or the checking my posts to see what I'm yakking about) This was my decision, and I want to be the one dealing with it. Most of my family and all of my friends are meat eaters also, so I'm always getting flak about that...

ANYWAY! Katholyn, You are so wonderful greeting everyone at the sign in, but we've talked before, (I'm *Robin*) and I wanted to say thanks...

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that isn't on a specific diet. I have a family of naturally skinny  people, and the minute I do anything diety, the (good-natured) harassment starts. I can't wait to chat with you all more...it's so nice to have friends in the same boat!!

Thanks all for the comments...I'll be around...now that I remember to check the OTHER email and login pages...

Although I am following WW, I don't think of it as a diet. I think of it as a TOOL to help me learn to eat in a manner that others seem to know how to eat. For me it has to be a learned behavior. Just like you might use a cookbook to prepare a fantastic dish, I'm using WW to help prepare a fantastic me.:)
