Just kidding, but I have seen every thread about moving down south mention moving to NC. Its a great place to live and I'd never leave but the job market sucks and unemployment is on the rise.

What is it about NC prompting all the movement down from up north?

Well.....as my DB moved down there for his job, this is one Yankee who will NEVER be moving down there :rotfl2: We've been down once since they moved, for two days, and I'm thinking that we're good for visits.Don't need to go again, we'll wave from the plane as we fly over on our way to WDW

I heard it has something to do with Waffle Houses and sweet tea :confused3 We don't have them up here :teeth:

I suspect the appeal of NC is similar to the appeal of VA.

I have heard this area is the "new" Florida.

With rising real estate values (particularly in NY/NJ area) folks who are retiring can sell their "small" houses up there and build beautiful retirement homes down here. And they are doing it in droves! ;)

I think recent hurricane seasons and higher real estate costs in FL (compared to here) are making this area very appealing.

Plus, there is much more "open space" in some of the areas where development is now going. But it is going quickly!

Is every Yankee in the nation moving to NC?

Maybe not EVERY Yankee, but my Yankee DD will down there for at least a year while she attends Duke for graduate school. Then she can decide if NC is just TOO south for THIS Yankee girl! :teeth:

We already have all the old yankees from Florida that come to the NC mountians in the summer.

We "lovingly" refer to them as Floridiots!

We vacation in Charlotte every year for the race, but I wouldn't move down there, so here's a Yankee you can count out! My DH would though, he has big dreams of working for a race team. I'm a beach girl and can't be away from the sea breeze. From what I hear Charlotte has a good job market right now. Plus you can get a nice house for a fraction of what we pay up here in CT for a little thing!

Gee that's nice. Well DH and I plan to retire in the mountains, however we will become full time residents, not just visiting in the summer. Hopefully people won't think we are idiots just because of where we moved from. ;)

It has nothing to do with where you moved from! They earn that title every summer! :rotfl2:

Nooooo! The stink! Not the yankee candle stench!! :rotfl:

Well, I did see a huge billboard on the side of the road this weekend saying, "Florida is full." Now where would they get that idea from?

Here in Texas we try to scare off the potential transplants by posting 100 degree plus heat in April. If that won't scare them away nothing will.

That might work but than there's that other slogan of y'alls.....everything is bigger in Texas :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My reasons for wanting to move there:

1. I love the diversity of topography in NC.

2. Far less snow than PA

3. I can sell my house, pay off the mortgage, and buy a similar house in NC with the remains and have NO MORTGAGE!

4. I have relatives there.

5. My wife's industry has a ton of employers there, and she could find a job for sure, though she might need to take a paycut. But that would be fine.... we wouldn't have a mortgage! Woo Hoo!

6. BBQ.

7. Sweet tea. Yes we can make it here.... doesn't taste the same!

8. Way less traffic... though I know in some areas you have traffic problems.

9. Blue Ridge Mountains! And the ocean all in one state!

10. Intangibles like less pollution, more open space, and other stuff.

We are headed to NC in 15 days. We go EVERY year. We stay in Charlotte for the most part but take day trips, or leave our kids with my SIL for 2 -3 nights while we get a little "Alone time". This year we will be heading to Asheville on May 8th, staying til May 10th. I CAN'T WAIT! This is part of 10 days in NC.

We just LOVE North Carolina!

you don't have "all" the yankees moving to NC , because we have a ton of the "cidiots" moving north out of NYC drviving prices thru the roof.
