Is Disney your "vacation spot"?

I would LOVE to go to Disney every year but sadly we don't have the budget for it. Last time was Nov. 2007 and that was the first time we were lucky enough to spend a week at POP - our very first time staying on property. We are hoping to go again to POP in 2011. On the off years we don't go to Disney we camp and go to the beach but we are also looking forward to seeing more of the USA like Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone and Alaska. Just this morning we booked 2 nights at the beach and that was $500 just for the hotel and the ride package.

For the last 6 years we have done DCL and WDW. My youngest still believes in the magic and my oldest will tolerate it lol! We live in cold weather and pick a time when it's horrible here to go. Now we aren't going again til 2011 so we probably will venture to Wisconsin Dells over the summer. When the kids are older I would love to go to DC and the Smithsonian or to the National Parks. We've been to WDW 5 times and there is so much we haven't done.
My neighbors on the other hand have been to Spain, France, and just got back from China. Their kids are around 8-9. I say if you have the money go for it but for us personally I can't see my kids on a 8-12 plus flight. I would feel sorry for the other passengers.

I don't even know if I can handle the 8-12 hour flight! I went to vegas and that was 5 hours and I swear it was the longest 5 hours of my life!

We have several "go to" spots - Disney, sometimes for big trips and sometimes just for long weekends, my family's "up north" vacation property, and an indoor waterpark resort in Ohio are all annual or nearly-annual trips. Then we throw in some other trips for variety, mostly around the Great Lakes region or down the mid-Atlantic coast.

Our big family vacation is during the winter because of DH's work schedule and none of us are skiiers/winter lovers, so our destinations are rather limited by weather. FL is about perfect for that, especially right now with a toddler too young (IMO) for most of the other tropical/sub-tropical destinations I'd like to visit. We went to Mexico a few years ago and had a blast, but it wouldn't have been much fun with a baby. Disney, on the other hand, was MORE fun for having her along! As she gets older, our big Disney trips will likely drift further apart as we branch out to more adventure/active travel to places like Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Australia.

No it is not our "spot." We like visiting Disney World but there are so many places in this big world to see (like the real France, Germany, and Mexico). :)

Disney is one of the easiest baby places, in my opinion. Just the long plane trips made it hard to take one younger than 5. DH has my middle kids in Costa Rica right now. They are working with a college group banding monkeys, and then heading to Honduras for a mission trip next week. We scheduled it befor I got pregnant with the weeist one.

What a neat trip and a great opportunity for your kids (and dh!).

As much fun as WDW is and as much of a fan that I am - my DH & I made a decision that we wanted to see the world and the US with our children. Don't get me wrong I would love to go there (& other Orlando attractions) every year but there is a real world out there with history & cultures.

So far we have gone to:

Caribbean (PR, Tortolla, St. Martin)
Mexico
Canada
and the BIG ONE - Ecuador & Galapagos - we just got back

The states we've travelled to:
Vermont
Mass
Pennsylvania
Alabama
Florida (the Gulf Coast)
Georgia
Tennessee
Colorado
Virginia
Delaware
Connecticut
New York
North Carolina
South Carolina

Our next big trip that we're planning in a couple of years is England, Spain, Denmark & Finland with St. Petersburg thrown in for a couple of days - this will be a month long trip. We're lucky that my DH gets wonderful bonuses which we immediately put into savings and we also put any tax refunds we get into savings so that enables us to travel without having to charge our vacations.

But each family is different but that's our mentality :)

Another traveling family!!!! Hi!! Our family has a HUGE map on a wall. Whenever we complete a trip to a new place, we put stickers on the places we've been. It's really fun to see how many states my oldest has seen (nearly all but AK and HI - but we'll do AK in 2012!!).

I'm jealous of your month long trip!! And, I'm planning one of my own!!! We priced out a trip to Ecuador and Galapagos, but decided in the end that it would have to wait until the kids were out of the house. (That, and Antarctica!! - Seriously!)

He works in the Behavioral Sciences, so that is how it came about. With the long notice we were able to plan the church trip to correspond. I would have loved to be there, but I am with my mom anyway, since she had to go back into chemo. I would have been a wreck if I had been gone.

Things work out the way they are supposed to, I suppose.

Wow. your family has been through a lot haven't they? :grouphug::grouphug: for you and your mom.

When are you due?

JenniferInMI - the trip to Galapagos was expensive but worth every penny. We went with National Geographic/Lindblad and words can't describe it-we spent 8 days on the islands. My DDs are still thanking us for the trip.

It's funny but we also have a world & states map and also put a mark on all the states and countries that we have visited. :cool1:

What tour company are you using for the AK trip? My Dad went with Holland America (AK had been the only state he hadn't visited and it was his dream to go) and love it. If we go we'll use National Geographic again because their staff & naturalists were just so knowledgeable!

We love to travel! My husband and I have traveled to four continents and lived on three. Since our daughter was born, we have been trying to visit as many places as we can. She was 4 on our first trip out of the country (Canada). So far, she's been to 10 states as well. Oh, and we have a wall map too!
