Is Disney World becoming a shell of its former self?

The way I see it is that Disney pulls people into Orlando to bring their younger kids, then Uni keeps them coming when the kids get to be tweens. Afterthe tweens grow up and have kids, the now grandparents and parents bring the little ones to WDW and the cycle continues.

The thing about Universal for me is that outside of a couple of great coasters (Hulk and RRR) and Harry Potter, the rides are mostly the same model - Minions, Spiderman, Transformers, Simpsons - you sit in a cart with 3D glasses and screens all around you and you really don't go anywhere. Kind of boring.

It would be like if half the rides at WDW were Soarin' with different visuals. That's why Universal will probably always be a one-day thing for us.
Don't forget my favorite ride anywhere - Revenge of the Mummy. No 3-d glasses needed for that one. Also there are the water rides and Men in Black and Disaster. Also the carts move on a track in Spiderman and Transformers but otherwise I get your point. ;)

You are grossly oversimplifying relative to Spiderman and Transformers (can't speak to Minions or Simpsons which I haven't ridden). In both Spiderman and Transformers, you are actually in a ride vehicle that is moving through sets, where in some cases the transitions from one to another are quite elaborate, employing very carefully coordinated motion and projected imagery.

And to this day, nothing -- I repeat, nothing -- at Disney even comes close to equalling what is now a 16 year old effect at the end of Spiderman, where you experience a simulated 400 foot drop that is terrifyingly realistic and made possible through the simultaneous use of a moving building set, coordinated lighting and motion simulation, projections and wind effects.

You mean like Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid and The Seas with Nemo and Friends?

Three of those rides added to WDW were copies from DLR and DLP.
I see this comment in one form or the other many times and I really don't understand it. To me, what difference does it make if they are copies from another park, especially the ones overseas. How many people that go to WDW are going to have the chance to go to Paris or China and experience the ride there? I have lived here in Arizona, much closer to Disneyland than to Florida, and have only been to Disneyland twice since 1998. I much prefer WDW and would like to be able to experience the attractions there, whether a clone or not. So, I guess I just don't understand why people don't want to see clones in WDW.

As for marvel, no thing marvel will be coming to DHS for the foreseeable future. The only thing that could right now is guardians of the galaxy but that's unlikely at this point.
I thought they could for Ant-Man too? Granted we don't know how the movie will do though. Little side story ever since I heard a Ant-Man movie has been in the pipeline I have been rooting for this little comic book no one (outside of fans and comic industry people) has really heard. And that's interesting about the collaboration you mentioned!

Agree!

You're right; sets of screens :P

I understand the oversees point but the clones from Anaheim shouldn't be. There should at least be some differences in them. LMA came from Paris and LMA just isn't that great we should've gotten crushs coaster or something.

Not exactly sure on Ant-Man. I don't expect it to be as successful at GOTG tho. Marvel will be a focus on Anaheim. Star Wars will be a focus in WDW.

The meltdowns when Universal opens that Avengers E-ticket in a few years from now.

Disney isn't screwed but its not at a place where it should be lax.
Hey Disney will be completion ok with that because they are getting a nice check from universal for using those characters.

Of course they will but

Don't expect major Marvel in Anaheim other than whats rumoured coasters and meet and greets. Actually been to where its rumoured to go in DCA and that area isn't that big at all unless they get rid of a lot of park area.

OK, I see your point. Makes sense for the USA as far as a clone but would still think the mechanics of the ride system would make no difference if it was themed differently.

Yes I know it's kind of like a marvel mini land coming to DCA

Well think POTC. The WDW version is much shorter and said to be not as good compared to the Anaheim version. Now the WDW HM is said to be the superior one except for the holiday overlay. Many of the cloned rides do have difference but mermaid does not.

You mean like what was announced as the main attraction of Avatarland?
The avatar attraction will be different from soarin. Yes it will be an elevated ride with a screen like soarin but will have a lot more thrill. It is supposed to be using a new vekoma ride system.

No, sets with structures and projection. Think the GMR at Studios. Except with much more advanced ride vehicles, larger sets and 3-D imagery.

And it's noted that no one has tried to rebut the fact that Disney still has nothing that equals that brilliant 400 foot drop effect that Universal developed...16 years ago.

Just gonna make my final comment here. It seems the only people who think Disney is doing anything wrong at WDW are the people who visit at least once per year and have for years. I just know too many people who go for the first time or only occasionally that love it and have 0 complaints to think otherwise. Somehow among the 2+ times per year folks, nothing is ever good enough or fast enough. Disney is never going to try to satisfy those folks, because it would be an absolute disaster financially. Instead they'll just keep setting attendance and $ records by doing it the right way.

The last time Disney went for "more thrill" they ended up creating.... Mission: vomit.

So don't bet on "Avatar" being a wild simulator that makes you feel like you're pulling three Gs and going through inversions. Best bet is still this will be a Soarin clone that may jerk you around a little bit more and it will be interesting to see if they just end up replicating the type of experience you already get in many parts of HP Forbidden Journey (high speed flight that zigs, zags and swoops through towering landscapes).

In fact, now that I think of it, comparisons to Potter may include the observation that HP is better because you don't have the head and wings of some imaginary creature obscuring your view during your ride.

I really think you are underestimating it. Think of it sort of as this vekoma system.

This is the rumored system they are supposed to be using expect of course I'm sure they will modify it for Disneys needs. You will be riding a banshee flight simulator
