Please--keep it nice! This is intended to be a discussion, and if it gets disrespectful to anyone I will ask to have it locked. Thanks in advance.

I was talking with a coworker yesterday about Night of Joy. She asked where it was and I told her Disney. She told me that she boycotts Disney because it is the antithesis of Christianity because it allows things like the gay week. And that many of its movies have an anti-Christian message. This from someone who has never once stepped foot on property.

Another coworker and I tried to explain to her that Walt was a Christian and much of Disney is about good morals and values, and that many of the Disney movies are good examples of redemption/resurrection stories. And that there are many unsanctioned activities that go on at Disney such as New Jersey Week.

Your opinion?

Errr I'd tell you what to do but it won't fly here so.....tell her God bless and I hope her brain doesn't hurt too bad from being close minded

My easily influenced step-sister was on that bandwagon a few years ago - she wouldn't let my niece watch the movies, etc. Either she finally realized how silly it all was or someone leading the mindless flock told them the boycott is over because she doesn't seem to have a problem with Disney now. People who are looking for the devil will find him everywhere. You are wasting your breath trying to reason with them.

Well, my first response would be to point out that Disney isn't affiliated with Gay Days that people get so stirred up about so it isn't about Disney "allowing" or not allowing it.

Honestly, there isn't much to be said to someone with views like that.

I am trying to find a way to say this delicately but unfortunately it is not something I am very good at. You can always count on me to be honest and I try to be kind but what you see is what you get so here goes.
Your co worker sounds like a nutbag. Mickey as the antiChrist:rotfl2: :lmao: :furious: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Do I laugh or get mad?

That is what I told her. I was amazed though that anyone could see the clean family fun at Disney as the "antithesis of Christianity". And that anyone who claims to be a true Christian could be as intolerant. Jesus told us to love our brothers, he didn't tell us to ask about their sexual orientation first.

There's a whole group of people who think like this. What do I think? I don't care. The fewer nutjobs at Disney, the better IMO. I agree with the posters that said you won't change their minds though. So I wouldn't even argue with them.

ETA: about the Gay Days. There are gay people everywhere. Is your co-worker going to stop going to the grocery store because they allow gay people to shop there?

You can't speak rationally to people like this. Their very small minds are slammed shut and there's no room for discussion or growth. And, gee, I'm fairly certain that Christ made a point to hang out with the "undesirables" and that love one another is a pretty central message in the Bible. But nah, we wouldn't actually want to think rationally...

Christ used to hang out with sinners.

Hey OP -- tell your coworker that if your company didn't hire gays, then it'd be discrimination. Therefore, your company prob. has a few gay people working there. And, if that's the case, then co-worker needs to find a new job if she shouldn't be working for a company that is the antithesis of Christianity!!!! I wonder what co-worker would have to say about that!!!!!

LOL....if ya wanna be really evil...point out hidden mickeys to her everywhere you can. I agree tho, you will never change her very closed mind, so save yourself the stress and ignore her.
Tho being the rotten person I am, I would put up Disney stuff all over my work area(if allowed) Wear every Disney related item I had every chance I got, point out the hidden Mickeys, talk about the most recent film from one of the obscure movie companies Disney owns and let her rave on how much she liked the movie then tell her who owns it.(chances are she will not know that it is a Disney movie..hehe) Then again that is me...you do what you want ...hint hint. LMMEO

You could also let her in on the fact that the morality gestapo have decided they have bigger fish to fry. Whatever.

Citing other challenges in a "crowded cultural battlefield," the conservative American Family Association announced that it has officially ended its boycott of Disney theme parks and products initiated in 1996 over Disney's alleged embrace of gay rights and the "homosexual lifestyle."

The AFA, based in Tupelo, Mississippi, was joined in its opposition to Disney by other Christian right groups and the Southern Baptist Convention, but the entertainment company always contended that the boycotts were inconsequential.

AFA president Tim Wildmon, quoted on the group's Web site in late May, said he has seen some positive changes at Disney recently. But he also said that since 2001 the ideological struggle against Disney has become "lost among the other battles being fought on a crowded cultural battlefield."

The Chronicals of Narnia movie that came out from Disney is from a christian book written by CS Lewis. If Disney was anti-christian, they wouldn't be producing the movie. And another of the books in the series is coming out from Disney in the next yr or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most Disney movies about good triumphing over evil!? Isn't that a main Christian message?!

Maybe it's just an excuse for not going.

Why on earth are you trying to change her mind?!

Tell her that yes, absolutely Disney is the antithesis of Christianity. It is evil and must be avoided at all costs. She should not go, and she should tell everyone that she knows not to go.

(More room for me ;) )

Yes it is, but I was pretty much focusing on Narnia since the book and the series was written by a well known christian author, CS lewis. The Narnia chronology books were written over 50 yrs ago. The lion character, Aslan is a symbol of Jesus in the book. I saw it in the movie as well. Pretty cool!

Reminds me of a woman that used to attend our church. She apparently read up on some of the history of the Christmas tree, declared it "evil" refused to have one in her home for a year or two, and then... for reasons I'm still not sure about, it seems the tree became good again, because one appeared in her home and... never left. Valentine ornaments, 4th of July ornaments, Halloween ornaments... Weird I tell you!

For some reason this reminds me of years ago when I first came to the Dis , there was someone like this. An easily influenced lady was asking ppl in the trip board what in Mk wasn't "evil" so she could convince herself and family to go. :confused3
