Is Disney the antithesis of Christianity?

The short answer? Yes, it is.

Think about it: Disney (in every permutation, from the movies, to the parks, to the broadway shows) is fun, vibrant, colorful, entertaining, surprising, and bursting with life.

Every Christian church I've ever been to (and I've been to a LOT), is pretty much the exact opposite of all those things: boring, dull, everything done by rote and out of obligation, just an overall feeling of going-through-the-motions-because-hey-we've-ALWAYS-done-it-this-way-and-it's-EXPECTED-of-us.

Wow, I'm sorry you've had such negative experiences in church. I'm glad I've been to different ones that you have!

I believed that too about churches until I went to a charismatic church (and no, that doesn't automatically mean rolling in the aisles and bible thumping). As someone else said, if nothing else, a charismatic church will never bore you.

I'm not asking for advice for how to deal with her, I am secure in both my Christianity, and in my love for all things Disney. Besides, I am her BOSS.

I just didn't get it. What possibly could there be in a place that celebrates family, good values and morals, good over evil that wasn't conducive to Christianity?

I was unaware of the boycott that someone mentioned by the Southern Baptists, and the AFA.

And Night of Joy is what started the whole conversation because she was talking about Casting Crowns and I mentioned that I had seen them at NOJ.

I think you see what you want in groups or organizations. It isn't about the group, but what is in you. You can look for the good, or the bad!

There is still a lot of information on the boycott that can be found with a simple internet search. It was brought to you by the same people who said TinkyWinky was gay. I think these people are very confused about who Christ was and what his message was. They are more interested in thought control, power, and bullying than in compassion and redemption. I am more or less an atheist but I have a lot of respect for Christians who practice in the spirit of inclusion and love.

:rotfl: Yep, joining Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies, Spongebob, and whom else is so evil, that we allow our children to view and or soak it up...I know, I know, ELMO!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm guessing you won't see her at any Harry Potter movies either.

If you're ever in south Texas, come visit our church. We love Jesus & we love people! http://www.oakwoodbaptist.org/

OP- Our two favorite vacation spots are WDW & Branson, MO. We have good, clean fun in a safe atmosphere. BTW, we're Southern Baptist! :scared1:

I find that the people who are really secure and happy in their faith don't worry about what other people think, they don't worry about if disney is anti this or that or if Harry potter is evil because they know their faith and are happy with it. these whose faith is dodgy or shallow are usually the ones going round telling people they are evil and are anti christianity.

Mind you how many of us are going to be looking for 666 on the back of Micky's head from now on!!!

:lmao:

So, she isn't taking up space in line for EE. OK with me.

What would she propose they do about gay week, not allow them into the parks? The folks who attend buy their tickets like everybody else. Geez.

Try going to another amusment park and watch both straight and gay couples crawling all over each other everywhere in the park. UGH! You won't find that at WDW.

Yeah, sometimes you will.

Oh please (to your co-worker).

I believe if Christ were here with us today in flesh and blood he'd love Disney World. I bet seeing the joy on the faces of children and adults alike would thrill him.

Now, the question is what would be his favorite attraction. Hmm...I'm going to guess Splash Mountain. :)

WWJR (What Would Jesus Ride)?

I want to see the ride photo of him and the apostles on Tower of Terror.

My opinion is that there are people who are too afraid of everything. They intentionally try to find bad in everything in life. That just allows them to stick to their churches and small groups and not experience anything in life. They are the ones who claim to know everything about life and how to live it, yet know nothing at all. They fear more than they love. They hate more than they accept.

To me that is completely against the teachings of Christianity.

This is just about what I was going to post. :thumbsup2 There are people who think that coming into contact with anyone and anything outside of their church is somehow going to corrupt them. And, maybe, for some perhaps their faith is so weak that it would, but I think most just have always learned to live that way.

Oh my goodness, do we know the same woman? I used to have a friend who said the same thing! She was totally against Disney because they "promoted homosexuality." I basically told her she was on crack.

I would have to say...that there is no hope for these types of people and then I have a shorter line for Pirates!!!pirate: I do know friends of mine who hate Disney because its a huge company that takes people money or a place where children are "forced" to have fun. :confused3 I love Disney and have been going since the year I was born and every year after. Been over 50 times and I am only 19!! I just don't know how people could hate WDW:headache: :sad2: :headache:

I'm guessing you won't see her at any Harry Potter movies either.

Love the little smilie and shark:lmao: But I agree with not seeing her at any Harry Potter movies. I use to get very angry with people who would ban their kids from reading those...they were very good bookspopcorn::

If Disney is so anti-Christian then how come I see some people wearing Disney stuff to my church? There's especially one lady who loves Tinkerbelle and wears Tink watches and sweat jackets!

Does she also boycott everything Disney owns- like ESPN, Miramax films, Lifetime TV, the whole ABC network, etc?

The only non-Christian religious reference at WDW I can think of are the Chanukah pins they make. All religious holiday decorations are for Christmas and Easter. On December, there is the MVMCP and Candlelight Procession. Nothing for any other religious holidays.

The only kosher food at WDW is shipped in frozen. Do they even have kosher-for-Passover options?

While the commercial presentation of Christmas may not sit perfectly within each and every Christian's religious views, but WDW isn't going to go just Catholic or just Lutheran. If someone believes that Disney is anti-Christian, it would be more correct to say that they are secular (and Night of Joy and Candlelight Procession sort of disprove that). And in this non-religious country, rightly so.

C.S. Lewis became a christian late in life. He was a long time Athiest(sp).

In college in Lit. class there was a book about disney movies and how bad they were. The lion king was brought up. Mainly because of the casting. Jeremy Irons (white , British), to play scar, and Whoopi Goldberg, and Cheech (were the lower class animal)

People say things because they are afraid. Im sick of people using the phrase "thats not very christian" (im Cathoilc)So im like Jewish people are bad then.

Also do these so called christians Know that Jesus was not really born in December, The day we celebrate in a pagan holiday.

If the people are good and caring and wish no harm to others what does it matter?

If the dont want to go to Disney fine, more room for us.
