I have looked through a few threads on car service but was just wondering if anyone worked with a car service for a trip over a week and different rides. We fly in on Sunday for a 4 day cruise, head to Disneyland on a Thursday and Saturday back LAX for flight home. Traveling with our best friends so 4 adults, at least 4 checked luggage. I found some less than stellar reviews for Primetime shuttle, rides cancelled last minute. Executive car service has been mentioned a couple times and reviews seem fairly good. Uber XL is an option but when I have checked same time of day for a vehicle I am seeing a large flex on pricing and surge pricing looks like it could be an issue. We only want to take private car, no other groups do not want to head to other parking area for a shuttle etc.

I use Midwilshuttle.

Im a solo international female and I have been using them for many years with no issues.

I have them booked for my upcoming trip in a few weeks.

The processs
  1. Fill out the quote form on their website
  2. Accept the quote and pay online in advance
  3. On the day call them or WhatsAp text when you land at LAX to alert the driver you have arrived. They will text back the drivers name and make of car.
  4. Go to the private car pick up area directly outside arrivals, at curbside and call them or WhatsAp text to tell the driver your exact location, ie the number pole you are standing beside.
Approx price for me is usually $100 from LAX to Disneyland

Thank you very much I will take a look at their website. Appreciate your first hand recommendation.

We don’t know how soon you’re traveling, but Uber and Lyft will allow you to schedule a ride so many days in advance. The price is set when you make the reservation, not when you arrive, and you can still cancel up to so much time in advance.

Diamond driver guy. Have used them twice and both times was excellent. They also include a stop at a grocery store if you want.

We do not travel until September. We basically will have 3 different times of travel. LAX to Long beach cruise terminal, Long Beach cruise terminal to Disneyland, Disneyland to LAX. Waiting on calls back from several vendors for quotes.

Generally, you pay a healthy premium for car services. Ride shares will offer the best rate; if you’re concerned about surge pricing, book your ride in advance. It costs more but protects you from surge pricing. If you have a Costco membership, you can usually hit a $100 Uber gift card for $80.

Getting out of the Long Beach port can be messy. We usually walk toward the park and order a ride share from there. It’s a pleasant 5-10 minute walk past the Queen Mary. You’ll save a few bucks off the rate and will more quickly get accepted.

Disney Trivia: Disney acquired the rights to develop the port in the late 1980s when they acquire the company that owned the Disneyland Hotel (it also managed the Queen Mary). They proposed building a theme park and cruise terminal on the site. Disney later sold the rights but while Carnival moved forward with the port, nothing else has been done (and people would be opposed to infill today anyway). Much of what was planned was later incorporated into DisneySea in Tokyo.

As an international solo female, a car service suits my needs much better.

Car service picks up and drops off curb side at LAX. After a 10 hour transatlantic flight, this is invaluable, as it removes the extra part of having to get to the LAXIT ride share pick up area.

Car service is paid in advance. This means that after a 10 hour transatlantic flight, and the brain fog of approx 24 hours in transit from my house, I don't have to worry about payment.

Costco is not in my country, so that is not an option for international visitors.

As an international I dont have a phone plan or cell service while I am in America. Midwilshuttle uses WhatsApp internet messaging service. I can connect to the free LAX WIFI to contact them.

While a local perspective can be really valuable for some things, locals often don't understand that out of state and international visitors have different needs and ride shares may not be the best option.

Fair points but the OP mentioned using UberXL, which does pick up at the terminals. Saying they prefer “UberXL” also suggests that they’re familiar with the service.

Thanks but we are all in the 60 year range with one of us having a bummish leg we will have a scooter for at disney. So we will still do pickup at cruise terminal. I have had 3 out of 5 pre booked Uber xl take twice as long for pickup as people who paid the surge pricing. Amazing what you talk about with people at the airport curb. I would like to think that is just a coincidence, but it was enough that there was a comment during those 3 trips "Is this normal?". The getting accepted thing is also the pain of Uber, Disneyland pickup has taken forever several times even for regular Uber waiting for acceptance, that is pickup from a Disney hotel. At least we will be at Disney!! Uber normally does great for us, but less so at Airport for XL and around Disneyland hit or miss.
