at the risk of sounding paronoid...

I'm planning to buy BCV resale. is Disney more likely to exercise their ROFR since I am a non-member? In other words would Disney "encourage" me to become a member through them (at a higher price) than through resale?

Or do they not see who the seller and buyer are in the resale contracts?

they see who the buyer and seller are, but as a former nonmember who bought a resale, i suspect it depends more on the price you are paying and the number of people lined up to add-on BCV pts...

It is simply a business transaction for Dis. If they can make money they will. It isn't revenge.

I bought my BCV resale as a nonmember with no problem. The disboards were really helpful in my research, and my offer was reasonable compared with the current resale prices for BCV. My guide was still congratulatory despite losing a sale, but it made adding on at BLT a pleasant experience with her.

I'm sure we would all have varying opinions as to the answer to your question but that's all they would be. I can confidently say that there is noone on this board that knows the real answer and the folks off the board that do, ain't gonna share the answer with anyone. ;)

We've seen no evidence of this and no evidence they're more likely to take the contract of one who's toured or contacted them directly either.

When I first became a member I was talking with my guide and negotiating a resale simultaneously. I put the resale deal together first. The next time I called my guide he mentioned my resale contract. Ended up doing both.

Resale market is important to Disney because it gives buyers comfort knowing they have an asset that is transferable and is reasonably liquid, especially for a timeshare.

There has been some discussion here that ROFR is more likely to be exercised if a non member is buying a small contract - say 25 -50 points. The thought is that administrative costs are the same for small contract owners as for those who own the minimum or more, so lots of small contract owners increases the administrative cost.

That said, we have only anecdotal evidence. There are many members who started out with 25 points via resale. My opinion is that ROFR decisions mostly depend on the price per point. But my opinion is worth what you paid for it. :)
