Is direct price negotiable?

I just wanted to make sure. All this time I had assumed no, but someone this weekend was telling me they negotiated with the DVC sales rep. Does that make sense to anyone? Other than incentives, my understanding is the price is what it is.

Misunderstanding or they are lying. OR the rep didn't tell them about a promo price in the beginning and made it seem like they were getting some special deal. lol Maybe they even threw in some "free points" (aka the points they're entitled to).

The only thing I ever heard "negotiated" was the purchase being contingent on the availability of a specific reservation.

Are you talking about a "welcome home" trip reservation?
(Is this still a thing you can request when buying direct?)

Not really. AFAIK, the "welcome home" visit is a courtesy offered to all new members who purchase their first contract directly (so not offered if your first contract was resale). It only applies to the first reservation made using points (so doesn't apply if you've already made one yourself before requesting the welcome home visit). The reservation may or may not be for the resort purchased.

The negotiated item I am recalling was the reservation wanted was part of the contract and no purchase was made if it couldn't be provided. I have no idea if DVD would entertain such a thing now.

I'd guess that mostly became formalized with the Welcome Home reservation whereas before it was just hit or miss with some guides.

Direct - they have incentives that are published. But the price is the price. You pay it or walk away!

Although I love to negotiate, I am glad DVC direct pricing isn't negatable. I think that "someone" has a poor choice of wording to express the deal he/she got.

Great3

While I always anticipated any direct purchase can be negotiated beyond the incentive offers, I've always wondered about other special kick backs. IE you reward tours with some gift cards and fastpasses. Has anyone making a purchase while at WDW and in person tried to get some of these type of kickbacks or is that also wishful thinking?

I did get some extra FPs back a few years ago for a new direct - but not my first contract - they were the Std FPs given for taking the DVC tour at SS - didn’t work for any of the new rides like 7Dwarves which was still newish then...

DVD always keeps things the same for sales. If they are offering things, everyone buying gets them, including price.

Prior to Covid, they did offer incentives for tours. Those are not being offered right now.

What is a welcome home visit? We just bought direct (our first DVC contract), and didn't hear anything about it.

I will say while direct is not negotiable, if you are waiting on Disney for other stuff you can leverage a direct purchase for speed.

We had a contract we were selling, that was waiting for the buyers to be setup before escrow sent us funds. We also had another contract waiting for my wife to be added via gratitiuous transfer.

I mentioned to my guide that we would have to wait to addon our points until we had funds from our sale and the gratitiuous transfer to be done. Transfer was done less than a half day later and new owners had their stuff done within like three days.

It is a formalized option for assistance on your 1st reservation and it is written up in the contracts. DVC added it to contracts just a few years ago but I can't tell you the exact year. They offer assistance to procure a reservation in the first 6 months after purchase when availability is limited or appears to be none. If they can they will pull back from the cash inventory. You cannot have made a reservation yourself before asking. ie - it's a sales point if necessary to close a deal.

I don't want to say I tried negotiating but I suppose it was.. When I called about poly direct pricing they sent me the spreadsheet with the discount and while talking to the guide I did ask if paying cash would reduce the price.
I figured it was less paperwork for them tbh, but he explained the discount available was the posted one , it didn't matter if it was financed or paid outright.
Hearing the direct pricing made my decision to go resale that much easier...not interested in giving them an extra $18k if I don't have to :crazy2:

You always hear about the new buyer who thinks they got free extra points from last year. When, in reality, they just got the points they were entitled to. It's June and they bought Sept points.
