Is Dinosaur a good thing to ride once? And what's with it's reputation?

I have never ridden Dinosaur but my teenage daughter keeps going on about how it's super terrorfying (she is 17). She has not ridden it either though and it has become this weird dramatic argument out there on the net. It's so over the top that it almost feels like people are tolling. We got in a debate about it even last night. I under no circumstances will miss it my next trip although she refuses to ride it... (she will be 18). Not that AGE matters, I mean to each their own. But this argument isn't say with my 12 year old and the amount of emotion she is putting into the debate is WEIRD.

Anyways what is the deal with this ride? I watched a video and was shocked at how ridiculous it looks. And the only thing I can figure out is that there are some jump scares. And the arguments about it's terror inducement isn't coming from little kids, it's coming from grown adults.

Insight?

I cant imagine how anyone besides a young child would be honestly terrified. Unless you believe animatronic dinosaurs are real. That said its a bit hurky-jerky and will toss you around if you don't hold the OS-bar tightly. Its definitely a lesser ride when compared to Indiana Jones but it's still fun and worth it to me. Especially if the waits are short.

I mean there are a couple of mild jump scares on top of the jerky movement so I get it. Videos also don't get across how dark it is, either. Age doesn't make a difference either, y'all have to remember that everyone has different thresholds for scary and that's perfectly normal. I like it but sometimes I have to skip it because the movement and everything can be overstimulating to me.

I'm not aware of any debate about it being too terrifying...

It's a bumpy jeep ride, in the dark with very loud noises.
There are a few jump scares especially with the T-rex but not "terrifying".
Young kids who are tall enough go on it.
Its very much the equivalent of Indiana Jones in Disneyland as far as the vehicle, movements, and jump scare factor.
The T-rex portion is very much equivalent to the old Kongfrontation attraction at Universal.
If your daughter refuses to ride then she may have to sit there and wait for you lol.

Ya some here a few years ago talked about it and here are a few funny comments;

I would say YES, this ride can be scary for adults. I finally decided to try this ride several years ago and now it's one of my favorites. I'm 57. I take an Advil about an hour before I go

Haven't had my eyes open on the ride since. Most people in my group like it, so I go. The movement doesn't bother me at all but the ride is very intense. Plus I am a bit of a scaredy cat, I can admit it.

I rode it once, and had my face and ears covered the entire time, crying the whole time. I was expecting something different, and actually was sobbing it scared me so much, so I am sure the ride photo would have been classic. I was "that" adult crying getting off the ride while 7 year olds were high fiving..

It is pretty terrifying for me (an adult).

I think this thread is so funny cuz I have always told people that I find Dinosaur terrifying!!

So funny that people are talking about this. It's my favorite ride at AK.

It hits all of my requirements. Dark ride, check! Animatronics, check! Goofy story arc, also check! No silly IP tie-ins. (Why make art when you can just buy it? 😜 ) The bumps work out my middle-aged lower back ache too, definite plus!

I think my daughter got a long of her "info" off of youtube videos and such. There might have been an old TikTok video that went around also. I did go out and scan the web and found a bunch of warning reviews from adults. Including a thread here from a few years back. One person (adult) said they were crying when they got off...

I thought there was NO WAY that this ride could be that bad. I knew it had jump scares and was rough via the video but could not wrap my head around why someone who had never ridden it would raise some kind of debate about this. I mean sure she is an opinionated teenager but this was a weird argument.

lol

My 9 & 10 year-olds recently watched a video of the ride and are extremely excited to ride it in April. My older kids rode it at their age in 2017 and loved it. :confused3

I love Dinosaur! It has a quirkiness to it that puts a smile on my face. It definitely has one moment that I can see as scary for anyone, but that depends on what scares you. I think it's all personal preference.

I am a "ride scaredy cat." No question about it. I will not do roller coasters or anything remotely scary (to me). However, I was curious about the Dinosaur ride and, many, many years ago, after relentlessly questioning a cast member about the ride-any roller coaster-like dips, etc, I decided to give it a try. First time through, I kept my eyes shut most of the time. Did it again and kept my eyes open most of the time. Now, I enjoy the ride.

It's okay, we skipped it the last time we were there because we were heading home. It's a fun ride but it's under FOP, EE, Safari for me.

I love the dinosaur ride. Its a rough ride but certainly not crazy Scary like a coaster. It doesn't go fast but it's dark and loud.... You do need to hold on ...

My daughter rode this for the first time in 2019 when she was 6. She loves dinosaurs and loved the ride. Like people said, it’s jerky! We rode it again last Sept and my husbands backpack fell out of the vehicle.

I also love Dinosaur!!! It’s my favorite ride in Animal Kingdom! I could see the first time maybe getting a little scared at one part of the ride (your first time on), but other than that, I personally don’t feel like it’s a scary ride! Definitely go on at least once to experience it for yourself!!

I've only seen younger kids be scared by it.
As an adult, I find it lots of fun. Definitely worth doing.
If you have ever done Indiana Jones at Disneyland, its the same ride with a different theme .

Dead serious, though, if you have back or neck issues (or don’t, and want to stay that way LOL), be warned. It’s surprisingly jerky. After I learned to really plant my feet and let my hips absorb the motion, it’s much better. But I don’t have any issues and I swear I thought I was gonna need a neck brace after the first ride. But “scary.” No.

It has been tamed down from the original version. It used to have some really well done jump scares.
