a. can we just bring the chip to them?
b. How much is each 4*6 please?
c. What about the quality?

Lots of thanks.

Yes, it's available. I saw the sign in Shutters, but I didn't use the service myself; thus, I cannot comment on the quality of their developing. I think it was something like .59/picture, which is quite a bit more than I pay at home.

What my DW and I have done is bought a portable printer. We take it with us and do our own printing. That way we only print what we want.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure why you would want your digital pics printed while you're still on vacation. Wouldn't that cause problems with getting them home without incident?

Hi DMS_cruisers04, I want to do that because I only get one chip. Now I have to figure out the cost and see if it is worth it to print on board. But it's hard to say as I really don't know the quality of the pictures...

Why can't you get more digital media chips? I have three that each hold 130 pictures at high resolution.

I wouldn't bother to bring along a printer. I can have digital pictures printed at Eckerds for .29 each, which is cheaper than I can buy ink and paper!

As for printing only what you want, that's one of the big plusses of digital photography: I delete the pictures I don't like from my digital media, then I have them print everything that's left.

Okay, makes since Twin Stars. I was just wondering.

To elaborate on what MrsPete suggested, what size card are you using now? And, are you using high res. because you want a chance to enlarge your pics? A higher meg card would afford you more pics per card, as would lowering the res (based on what you plan to do). 4X6 pics usually come out pretty well at just 1024X768. I know at that res I can get a ton of pics on my 128 meg card.

ps What type camera are you using? Just curious, I'm a camera guy.

Since I teach high school photography, I have an assortment of cameras. I took an Olympus C-4000 Zoom (a high-end point-and-shoot) on our cruise last week.

I always shoot at the highest possible resolution. I have plenty of digital media cards, and that means I"m set if I want to enlarge a picture.

Hi DMS_cruiser and MrsPete

1. "Why I can't get more digital media chips?" THe answer is VERY simple: it's expensive.

2. What camera I am using: a very old digital camera with only 2.0 pix. I dare not risk lowering the resolution : in case I really like the pictures.

Too bad!

I saw that Shutters does do digital media processing. What I meant to check out during our October cruise was if by processing they would just take the stuff on the digital media and put it on a CD. That would free up the digital media and keep all the pics in tack on the CD.

I know there are kiosks that do this.

Okay LTS, about expense. Do you have a Sam's Club near you? Last we were there, okay not this past weekend maybe the weekend B4, they had really inexpensive cards. Every little bit would help, cause I agree with you, @ just 2.0 I'd go with the higher res too.

BTW, have a good trip and here's to hoping you get some great pics! :genie:

DMS_cruisers04, since you are a camera guy, could you recommend a digital camera to me that has a 3.2 mp and can take movies? I understand that the movie function is not the key function but I really want to bring it on to the cruise.

I am not a Sam's Club member but I am a Costco member.

I am also very interested to find out if Shutter will process the digital pic by putting it on a CD. This can free the memory of our card and we can wait until we get back home to develope the pictures.

paulmc80: I would appreciate if you can let me know.

We purchased a 4mp Minolta Dimage S414 for $300 and were thrilled with the pictures! It also takes 60 second movie clips.

As for digital media, we use compact flash cards and I was able to get a 256 mb card for less than $50 at BJs (similar to Costco). It holds more than 200 pictures at my highest resolution.

The camera Michelemouse speaks of is one of the best deals (steals) going on a 4 MP camera with a 4X optical zoom. It has a good lens too. It can be had for under $240 shipped!

Check this out: http://www.infinitycameras.com/viewitem.php?IndexID=3651

My mother recently bought this, and it is every bit as good as my Canon G3 (at nearly $500).

Good reviews too:

Does your camera use Compact Flash (CF) cards?

"Does your camera use Compact Flash (CF) cards?"

No, Sam. But why? Is there any trick that I can use if it uses CF cards? Really want to know more as I may buy another one after Christmas coz' mine does not have the movie mode.

I cleaned out my camera bag last night and found a spare. If your camera was compatible, I was going to offer to send it to you. :D

As far as I know, CF cards only work in cameras that accept them. Sorry I couldn't help further. :(
