Is DCL worth it for Alaska?

The one big issue I have with DCL is their strict meal times in the MDRs. That is one big reason why I probably won't sail them to Alaska. They are getting better with the options of Palo, Palo brunch and Cabanas Table Service but I've always hated the idea of having to eat on their schedule. I am sailing on the Disney Magic this Fall and I did see that there will be a buffet dinner for people coming back from WDW on that day in port. So they are getting there and hopefully will adapt some for those Alaska sailings in particular. Some people like those scheduled meals time but I've never been one of them. I will probably go NCL to Alaska for that very reason. I want more port time and don't want to feel that I have to get dressed and rush to dinner @ 8:30 every night.

We have done Alaska twice. Once on Princess and once on Royal Caribbean. Loved them both. Found RC to have a younger crowd. We love Disney Cruise Line, the shows, the movie theater and all of their onboard activities. Our kids love Disney cruise line more than we do! If you want to "DO" all of Alaska you should book a one way cruise that takes you to Seward, Anchorage and Denali at the least. We loved Talkeetna, Alyeska resort and Fairbanks as well. Alaska is all about the beauty and majesty of the landscape and the thrill of seeing the big 5 wildlife.
Unfortunately, Disney doesn't offer all of that.

DCL has typically had a "normal" buffet service for dinner in ports that the sail away is late. That's nothing new.

Normally the dinner service in Cabanas is a sit down service, but you can go anything during the service hours, you're not limited to showing up at your normal seating time for the other dining rooms.
