Balls is not as bad as crap? :o

When I was in kingergarten I told my teacher to stop busting my balls. This resulted in a hysterical phone call home by the school's administration to inform my parents about what I'd said, a 1 hour conversation with my mother explaining that we don't repeat the things that daddy says and a 10 second conversation with my dad explaining that I didn't have any balls to bust. It was a devistating day for me... my how times have changed!

We don't say crap, sucks, freakin' or similar words. I don't view them as swear words really but I think they are not appropriate for everyday family use.

Crankyshank, if I said balls, my 11 yo son would never stop laughing.

I voted yes but only because I don't like to hear kids say it. I don't have children of my own but do teach 9 - 11 year olds. If they use that word when speaking directly to me I don't tell them off but do ask if next time they could use a different word. Maybe its an English thing but I am amazed "piss" is aloud on the boards. I would definately not allow that word.

My 13yo has been saying this since he was *6* (thank you MOM). Not around ME... mostly around grandma. Makes me mad on one hand WE were never allowed to say it or anyword in it's catagory (a mild cuss word) when we were kids and yet she didn't think twice about letting him say it.

Luckily it's mostly burnt out now, but can we say embarrassing when he'd use it around other adults. Oh I'd get so mad. I never even used the word as an adult. LOL.

On the other hand maybe it doesn't have the shock value other words might have? Doesn't make me like it anymore...

So I am inbetween...

I notice you have a third option with no notation in your poll. I think I would choose that. :p I don't really consider it a bad word, no; it falls somewhere in between a bad word and a good word, kind of like sucks or pissed off.

LOL! When DS was in second grade, a substitute teacher observed him giving someone the finger. He was sent to the principal's office and told it was a bad thing to do; at home, DH told him it was a bad thing to do. Finally, when I was hearing the story, DS said "But Mommy, what does it MEAN?" I knew that if I told him, he still wouldn't know what it meant. I told him that it means "I hate you."

I don't allow my boys to say it, but I have been known to slip myself sometimes!! It IS much better than the alternative!!!!::yes::

We were just talking about the word crap in my Creative Writing class.

Were were discussing that crap is a fun word to say, as it can be used in so many ways: noun, adj, adverb, verb. Its one of few words you can use like that.

We get into random tangents sometimes

I wouldn't want my kids to say it. I know they may say things behind my back, but my DD9 punched a kid in the arm for saying that at our house the other day. Of course it wasn't ok with me for her to punch him, but I am glad she respects our home. I used to say freakin until I heard on of my children say it one day and that stopped me right in my tracks. I apoligized to them and said that none of us are ever to use it again. Please don't get me wrong...I say bad words (not proud of that) but it doesn't give my kids the right to. I was at a soccer game the other day and one of the girls on the team said "this sucks" and I was shocked. Some things just don't sound right coming out of a childs mouth. Off my soap box.

For some reason I say "holy crap" a lot. Then I heard my 5 year old DD say it, and I've stopped. It's a hard lesson to learn when your kids imitate you!

I'd say I wouldn't be offended by an adult saying it, but if I hear a young kid saying it, I'd think that was wrong.

We use it - words for the most part don't bother me.

I voted wrong in the poll

The title of the thread is "Is crap a bad word?" so I answered NO to that instead of actually reading the poll question which was "Is crap allowed in your house" to which I should have answered YES.

I am not "righteous" but I firmly believe that crap is a crude word. I also would not allow my children to use any words in this category such as: balls, sucks, butthole, ****, and Jesus ( in that exasperated tone)

apparently you cannot say that last one on the DIS either, it was another word for breasts (beginning with T)

Oh I guess I voted wrong too. I voted no to is Crap a bad word. I didn't see the secondary question of is it allowed in your house, which would be YES.

I guess I am more affected by content, intent and tone than the word itself.

I don't think it is a bad word but I don't want to hear it come out of my DD mouth. She doesn't even say Butt. We refer to it as bottom. Just makes them seem like they stay kids longer in my book.

I don't consider it a swear word, but do consider it crude. We don't even say "butt" at my house. In general I don't talk like that - but on the rare occasion when I do, crap is my word of choice. I do think it's better than many of the alternatives.

I caught my eight year old saying "holy crap" and told him I didn't think it was appropriate and why. The next time he said "Sacred crud!". I told him he was very inventive but still offensive.

Me too. I read "Is crap a bad word?" and voted no but the actual question is it allowed in your home? Which I should have voted yes. Totally different answer.

Darn it! I voted "yes" on your poll thinking the question was "Is crap a bad word?" Now I see that the poll was worded "Is the word crap allowed at your house?" I need to change my answer to "No".

I wonder how many other people voted the opposite of what they wanted to?

I almost voted wrong but I looked at it just before I hit the vote button. I don't think crap is a bad word. I don't say it often and prefer that DS not say it, although he's said it a few times around me and probably more behind my back.
