Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

Of course there is going to be a surge in numbers once they actually start testing people. It isn't a surge in infections. It isn't anything to fear.

The more appropriate way to gauge a true surge is if we see a surge in hospitalizations or a surge in significant outpatient care measures from where we stood, say, a month ago. Sure, we are going to see a supposed spike in infection rates as we test. But when we see the hospitals fill up and doctor's offices getting crowded with true sick people then you can legitimately claim that the virus is progressing through the population.

And for the still-brave travelers out there (myself included), here is another issue to keep in mind: 3 TSA agents at San Jose airport have tested positive. No word of any kind from TSA as to whether they will start routine testing of TSA line agents. (My guess on that is no, though.)

Also, 3 guest-services agents employed by Metro Cruise Services at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) have tested positive as well; all are older p/t employees, and all are ill. The company primarily services Princess Lines. https://www.local10.com/news/local/...-at-various-port-everglades-cruise-terminals/

We had no travel plans but are considering doing a long weekend to NYC or Boston at the end of the month (we are within driving distance) because hotels, shows, Restaurants are getting so cheap.

I’m referring to the surge in serious/critical cases that will most likely over burden the healthcare system. I know the numbers will surge once we start testing (finally). We are not preparing for that situation properly.
Yes, the numbers will increase. The preparation is/has been changing as this has evolved. Healthcare institutions/professionals have been/are preparing for this.

I doubt dropping finger scans is going to help. Think of ALL the surfaces you touch in Disney. The grab bars on roller coasters, for example. If you are that concerned about finger scans, you probably shouldn't be going to Disney. It's pretty easy to use some sanitizer immediately after to negate almost all risk from that. Not so much the millions of other potential places for viruses to hide in Disney.
Of course there's a million places for a virus to hide at Disney but none more obvious that the finger scan stations. It's like, if you want Corona Virus please press this button. And I don't agree with you that it wouldn't help. It wouldn't hurt would it? It's avoidable and Disney should stop it. I can open a door with my foot or dispense paper towels with my elbow but they make you place your finger on a pad- not smart.

SOOO.......all field trips and trips have been cancelled in our school district, for the remainder of the school year. 8th graders will not be going to DC, Band will not be going to Disney, and all international travel for the summer.

Oh what a bummer. I'm getting increasingly concerned about my son's 8th grade DC trip in May too :(

I understand that schools are in a very hard place with this issue. But dang, that is such a bummer for all of those kids. So much excitement and planning and work they did for some of those trips.

What state are you in? I am in NC and from what I am hearing, most districts are saying at least no international travel and no travel to anywhere designated as a state of emergency. I found that kind of funny since NC is completely under a state of emergency, so no travel is going to happen then! :joker:

I agree. I feel bad for them. I am just hoping all the parents can get their money back. It was just announced last night, so I am sure the front office staff is getting a lot of calls today.

Michigan. We just had our first 2 cases diagnosed yesterday.

So Disney, where is all of that "AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION" now?!! Disney is putting this country at risk trying to stay open through the high revenue season of Spring Break. After they collect the cash in March, my guess is they will make a big flourish of closing in April AFTER the damage is done. Just consider how many people one sick person at Disneyworld will infect by coughing and sneezing in the middle of those tight crowds and lines for 8 hours in a day!

Yes, and I have been following the news closely in Italy and for example, there are a couple of places in the country where they had a dramatic increase in pneumonia cases even end of December/early January which they did not link to this virus at the time. However, now the can look back and see what it was.

I am hoping we have asked local health systems to consider doing this as well - reviewing abnormal numbers of pneumonia cases or lung infections.

Working from home during the self quarantine must not be an option?

Not yet, they said they were working on it in the memo that went out.

Well, that's absolutely ridiculous. I can see limiting international travel and maybe even domestic to hot spots, but you're only allowed within a 50 mile radius from your workplace? Nope.

Agreed! I thought why not don't leave the state or something along those lines, but nope.

How exactly are they supposed to enforce this? Are they tracking your phone or something? Unless you go posting pics to a social media account, no one would know where you were.

That's what I was wondering. For our camping trip (still in state but over 100 miles away), how would they know...we don't post much to social media, I don't even have a FB account but we use my fiance's. For our 2 trips they would definitely know esp since one is our wedding/honeymoon.

After the closures of Disney Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Japan, the most likely closure next, if at all, would likely be Disney Paris. France is still seeing doubling of cases at the same 2-3 day rate, and the entire country now has a ban on public gatherings of over 1,000+. So, conferences, concerts, sporting games (including their top soccer league, Ligue 1), etc. are now cancelled or modified to only allow up to 1,000 participants.

I'm sure Disney will want to hold out as long as they can as you mentioned. In the San Francisco region, the various counties do not have an outright ban, but they are requesting public gatherings of over certain numbers to be suspended. For example, my county has a request for any gathering over 50 people, other counties have set it at 100 up to 1,000. The only sports team holding out still are the Warriors (NBA), and that's most likely because each home game generates almost $4 million in revenue, most in the entire NBA.

It's not just Disney. Look at the NCAA they are going on with the tournaments for March Madness. In the 68 games under their control every game will be played with full crowds. MLB is full steam ahead unless stopped by the cities that control the stadiums. It's all about the money and you don't matter. Harsh words but put your big boy pants on, it's only going to get a lot worse. Down down 1200 points and stimulus package proposed by the White House is stalled in the House. House democrats don't like the payroll tax cut. This virus is real and sting measures must be taken for the health of everyone .

D.C. Health officials are urging the cancellation of all non-essential mass gatherings through the end of the month because of coronavirus. That includes conferences, conventions and entertainment events drawing more than 1,000 people

I wish I could say sports leagues would do so but they wont, Unless ordered by the govt.

The NBA is having a conference today about what to do...some sports reporters have reported that playing games without any fans is a very real and likely possibility. The NCAA is also holding a conference meeting, but they seem to be dragging their feet more.
