Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

Affecting my travel plans? Nope. My travel plans for this summer are to drive 4 hours in my car and lay in a beach chair for 3 or 4 days. Staying in the condo and cooking on the grill every night. So unless they close the beach or the state of Florida, looks like all will be well for us.

My sister was supposed to leave tomorrow to go on a school trip with her grandson to Europe. They were supposed to fly home from Rome. Flights were cancelled by Delta. So, the person in charge worked long and hard with the tour group to finally move the trip to the end of May. If they can't go in, all those kids and parents are out the money they paid because the tour group won't issue refunds.

I have two sets of friends who just got back from cruises. I don't have a clue where either of them actually went. One was find and didn't mention any problems. The other one, a lot was changed. The cruise line made the decision not to go to certain ports because of coronavirus.

Yes, cancelled spring break trip to Europe ... everything but the plane tickets anyway. Waiting to see if they will cancel the flight, which might give us a better deal than canceling them ourselves right now.

I'm more alarmed by the way people are handling things - panic buying and blanket fear or totally ignoring it and acting like it's no big deal.

I've seen a lot of bunker mode mentality - i'm on a "moms" group text because our kids are all home due to the school now being closed for the next two weeks. Some of these ladies are freaking out.
I've also seen a lot of laissez faire attitudes - a woman coming out of the department store restroom stall just casually glances at herself and walks out without washing her hands....other people mocking anyone who bought some extra sundries "just in case".

We are being cautious within reason. We arent in the thus far identified as "risk" group - and we are still leaving in 11 days for Hilton Head - the plane is still almost totally full and the dvc resort is at capacity as of this morning.

Maybe we are crazy and just dont know it yet....but I dont like making decisions out of fear -it's never worked out well for me.

I see a lot of totally ignoring.

I'm on tenterhooks right now waiting for the same thing. We booked a non-refundable fare and although the airline has offered concessions for flights leaving during the month of March, I'm praying they will widen the net and offer something similar for our flights to London for May. Unfortunately, without a government-issued travel ban, insurance will not cover the cost of a flight we choose not to take. :(

The vast majority of the country appears to fall into two camps, denial of the real threat or nutso overreaction.

Hmm, I'm not really seeing that, I'm seeing the nutso people because that is what the media is reporting the most. I don't know anyone in denial but I'm not sure what people are supposed to do.
Right now I'm going about my life as usual, until something happens where I can't.
I suspect that is what most people are doing too, maybe that is who you mean that is denying the real threat or ignoring.

So the business travel my husband has in NY (not to NYC) his company is supposed to book it today for flights at the end of the month. They'll have 17 employees total and because of that 1 person is coordinating all flights rather than allow each employee to book their own through the travel portal.

That said the offices here have gone ahead today and told each employee who has a laptop to bring it home every night (which my husband does majority of the time anyways). This way if they need to make the decision to work from home they'll be better prepared.

Here’s what’s going on (as of two days ago) in the hardest hit county of San Francisco region.

https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/Di...ographic-Santa-Clara-County-CoronaVirus_8.pdf

Take it with a grain of salt as this is a small sample size (relative to total cases worldwide) and local conditions could be different from other counties in rest of the country. And this only represents those that were tested.

I think you missed the part where it said this was for a disease outbreak and not a hurricane.

Since hurricane recovery is something I've dealt with many times, I guess in my mind the mobilization of Guard troops means protection against looting &/or rioting, so it doesn't surprise me to see them in a situation like this one.

We also had the National Guard deployed during the LA riots, and for many weeks after. They assisted in many ways, but it was strange to see them walking up and down the parkway in full attire in Brentwood.

Not sure if anyone lives in the Northeast here, but things are getting out of hand pretty fast there. Hope you guys stay safe.
The 48-hour incidence rate in Boston right now is comparable to outbreak areas in Asia in the early beginnings.
Seattle is the worst hit, but the prevalence in Boston will outdo Seattle in less than a week at this rate.
As we’ve seen with all the reports of incidents and reactions, remember folks, it just takes 1 individual.

And, I personally just say “no” to buffets or catered food that sits in large serving trays. It’s either individually prepared or nothing.

Looks like the virus doesn’t discriminate against the TSA either: https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/03/10/san-jose-three-tsa-agents-test-positive-for-covid-19/

I didn’t have any travel plans but my poor sister’s are very much up in the air at the moment. She did the Disney international CP back in 2017 and has been waiting to go back to Orlando to see her friends ever since. She had plans to go in June and then travel to the UK and Paris with one of her American friends and then stop in Dubai to see another friend on the way home. At the moment she just doesn’t feel comfortable booking. We don’t know what is going to happen, what borders will be closed, what attractions will still be open, etc. She’s pretty upset by it, especially as the friend she is then going to Europe with is mad that she hasn’t booked her flights yet.

Yes  My work has just announced a travel limit of 50 miles from the workplace and if we go outside those 50 miles we may be required to self quarantine for 14 days when we get back. We've had to cancel a camping trip we had for the end of the month and i'm not sure what it's going to do to our family vacay in June or worse our wedding in September. If it's still in effect, we are going to have to move our wedding because it's 3 hours away from our house and cancel our honeymoon.
