Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

Yes  My work has just announced a travel limit of 50 miles from the workplace and if we go outside those 50 miles we may be required to self quarantine for 14 days when we get back. We've had to cancel a camping trip we had for the end of the month and i'm not sure what it's going to do to our family vacay in June or worse our wedding in September. If it's still in effect, we are going to have to move our wedding because it's 3 hours away from our house and cancel our honeymoon.

I drive more than 50 miles to my workplace each day. I guess I would be in perpetual self-quarantine.

Not sure if anyone lives in the Northeast here, but things are getting out of hand pretty fast there. Hope you guys stay safe.
The 48-hour incidence rate in Boston right now is comparable to outbreak areas in Asia in the early beginnings.
Seattle is the worst hit, but the prevalence in Boston will outdo Seattle in less than a week at this rate.
As we’ve seen with all the reports of incidents and reactions, remember folks, it just takes 1 individual.

And, I personally just say “no” to buffets or catered food that sits in large serving trays. It’s either individually prepared or nothing.

That is a good point. Have you read anything that says the Biogen outbreak was caused by people all eating at a food line? I mean, how does one guy infect 70 people at one conference, unless he is a gregarious close talker or something. I work in the county where most of these Mass cases live. So it has finally hit close to home.

I'm on tenterhooks right now waiting for the same thing. We booked a non-refundable fare and although the airline has offered concessions for flights leaving during the month of March, I'm praying they will widen the net and offer something similar for our flights to London for May. Unfortunately, without a government-issued travel ban, insurance will not cover the cost of a flight we choose not to take. :(

So, we talked to someone at Delta and they offered us vouchers to use for the next year for the value of our flights. So at the very least, we should get that. But, we have a few weeks to see what happens.

That was my first thought too, but of course they added in that travel for a commute was fine. I guess maybe because you're in the car and not around others?

Looks like the virus doesn’t discriminate against the TSA either: https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/03/10/san-jose-three-tsa-agents-test-positive-for-covid-19/
This surge in infections has been what I’ve been expecting and fearing.

I read so many conflicting things. If this is just a mild flu for most, why would there be a shortage of medical resources? I have never gone to the hospital when I have had the flu, not even when I think I caught H1N1 in 2009.

People feel different severity of the flu. My best friend passed away due to complications of the flu. DS was hospitalized 4 days because of it. I’ve had it and never went to the hospital.

I think we should also temper this with a knowledge that there will be an appearance of a "surge" of cases however it is more than likely just a prevalence of testing.
The more we test for it, the more numbers we actually have. So it may not be "surging", it's definitely spreading but it's getting labeled at a higher frequency.

We're supposed to go to Disneyland in April. I'll admit, we're considering canceling (or postponing) at this point. JetBlue is waiving change fees. However, flights in July or August are more expensive, so that's an issue. Worse is we got a fantastic rate for Dapper Days. That price will go up about $300 per night if we postpone. That's not gonna work for us. The main issue for me is I don't want to spend our entire vacation in the bathroom after every ride and before every meal, washing our hands, using hand sanitizing stations. Just doesn't sound like a very fun vacation.

Working from home during the self quarantine must not be an option?

Got 5,000 points back by rebooking my April flight on Southwest. The other leg of my trip is Delta, they are offering no change fees so I’m still taking a wait & see approach on my April trip. My trip is just to see friends/family, so no public events to worry about

DH is officially working from home until further notice

I'm just back from a 5 day trip to WDW. Really didn't see many people wearing masks and crowds were heavy and all appeared business as usual. Did see a lot of people with hand sanitizer and a lot of hand sanitizer stations. Entering EPCOT a woman in front of us asked to opt out of the finger scan/biometrics scan. They told her she had to ho to GS for that. I think it would be a good idea for Disney to drop the finger scans for now.

I wonder if they have considered this?

I doubt dropping finger scans is going to help. Think of ALL the surfaces you touch in Disney. The grab bars on roller coasters, for example. If you are that concerned about finger scans, you probably shouldn't be going to Disney. It's pretty easy to use some sanitizer immediately after to negate almost all risk from that. Not so much the millions of other potential places for viruses to hide in Disney.

Disney should set up those devices that can register a person’s temperature before entry. If they have a fever, don’t let them in.

Well, that's absolutely ridiculous. I can see limiting international travel and maybe even domestic to hot spots, but you're only allowed within a 50 mile radius from your workplace? Nope.

So far Dh’s work said no international travel unless approved by the VP of the company. Nothing has been said about domestic travel. Dh said a coworker just went on a cruise so I guess he got that approved

It is misguided - as if the virus is only "elsewhere". This virus is going to be everywhere in the US because we do not restrict travel. It will be in every little town, and on every street, before this is over. That shouldn't scare anyone - but it changes the way that you prepare.

How exactly are they supposed to enforce this? Are they tracking your phone or something? Unless you go posting pics to a social media account, no one would know where you were.

Of course there is going to be a surge in numbers once they actually start testing people. It isn't a surge in infections. It isn't anything to fear.
I’m referring to the surge in serious/critical cases that will most likely over burden the healthcare system. I know the numbers will surge once we start testing (finally). We are not preparing for that situation properly.
