I don't hear too much about Coral Reef, yet it seems to be pretty popular, is it good? I'm kind of interested in trying it, but I don't know if it's terrible or not!

You're going to get different opinions of course, but this is one of two WDW restaurants we avoid (along with The Garden Grill). Portions were small and unappealing.

Its one saving grace was that Scuba Mickey did swim through on one of our trips, although that is an anomaly.

I went for my birthday one year and was horribly disappointed. The portions are tiny and the food is expensive, and not that great. If it was priced more reasonably, I would probably love it because of the atmosphere, but to spend that kind of money and still be hungry is absurd. The service was also spotty. Some tables got bread, others didn't. I will definitely not be going back.

We weren't impressed with the food but sitting next to the tank was nice. It isn't high on our list of places to go back to.

It's closed right now due to unforseen tank issues. Not sure when you are planning on going, but I just thought I should tell you.

IMO - food wise it is almost as good as Red Lobster and the service is not as good.
If I want fish I go to Blue Zoo, or maybe Flying Fish.
Also Kouzzinna for the whole fish, but I hear there are issues there, things are just no consistent.

People go here for the atmosphere.
I have had people (on this board) tell me they would eat here if they only served burgers and fries, the just love the place.

We were there on Sept. 28 of this year for lunch. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. The fish was dry. The crabcakes were good, but small. The dessert was my favorite part. If you're not on the dining plan, I wouldn't recommend it because IMO, it's expensive. The fish tanks are awesome and the best part about it was the atmosphere.

Service was good until it was time to pay our check - then it became snail pace. I will say we experienced this slow service at pay time at many restaurants during our stay. We had dinner at Le Chefs de France and everyone at the table remarked at how much better the food was as compared to Coral Reef.

I hope you enjoy your trip and all the food!

That is good to know. Is it the same tank for the Nemo ride? Is that closed also?

We were just there this past Tuesday and everything was operating fine. We ate at Coral Reef and I prefer the portions that aren't huge. I had chicken and DH had steak, both were very good. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their meals also.

Me Too. Same thing with the bill, and would not recommend if you are not on the DDP. Le Chefs, way better. Tanks are cool, but for the money, I would not eat here. None of us cared for the food. Flying Fish was Great! Not sure if Cap Jacks is still in DTD, but no to that place as well. We love Earl of Sandwich at DTD. YUM!!

NOTE: The Coral Reef is an interesting respite from normal
dining, as is the wall which is the aquarium. One can see fish and
the divers tending to the fish and tank. The food, unfortunately
has gone to the "average" zone. For some of the better dishes,
try the Mussels for an appy and the trout for the entree. Other
selections, like the chicken, are as run-of-the-mill as the political
dinner entree.

We have eaten there twice and have been pleased both times. The food was good and the atmosphere was great. We had no problems with service either. They accomodated our request to sit by the aquarium.

Thanks everyone! I'd like to try it, just to see how it is, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be somewhere I'd want to go more than once! Although, who knows, it might be great! :)

We've been four times and had four excellent meals. It's been over a year since our last visit, however. Much of the menu has changed since then. I still have confidence in their chefs, though, especially where the seafood is concerned. We love their fish dishes.

Really??? We have reservations for there on 10/28 - I just called to see if I could add more people, and they didn't mention this at all.... Any idea when it will re-open???

We ate there 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I was a little nervous because there a TONS of bad revies out there.

The portions were a little small, but by the time we ate bread, our entrees and our deserts we were still stuffed.

The atmosphere was fantastic. I thought the restaurant was just beautiful.

The aquarium is having filtration issues. Reports are that the water looks murky. The Seas is opening late every day while they work on the tanks. I know that the Coral Reef had one day a week or so ago that they did close because the water was really bad, but I believe they've been open normally every day since then.

I was just in WDW last week, and we were walking over that way to go to the Seas, and there were CM's outside, telling us that the Seas was closed for the night, however, they didn't mention that Coral Reef was closed. :confused3

We were there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed our meal. Of course, that could have changed since then since I know the items we ordered are no longer offered on the menu. The main thing that kept us from going back was the wait - we were seated over an hour after our ADR time.
