I was checking out the menu and it looks pretty good. Since we will be staying at the Poly, I thought maybe this would be a convenient 1st night choice since we like to hang out at MK the 1st night.

Chef Mickey's is an AWESOME choice for your first night! The atmosphere of this restaurant really gets one in the mood for a Disney vacation! The character interaction is (generally) outstanding (of course, you'll find exceptions everywhere), and nothin' beats the "napkin dance" to really get a party goin'. This is a must-do first night attraction for our family. My pics of the kids' faces during the napkin dance are absolutely priceless. (And as you mentioned, it's most definitely convenient.)

As for the food, opinions will vary, but we found it a pleasant surprise. (This is probably because we are great big food snobs and have very low expetations when it comes to buffets). We all found something we really enjoyed. IMO, Disney does an astonishingly good job w/the buffet.

You may also wish to do a character meal in the MK, like Crystal Palace or Liberty Tree Tavern, but I think CM's is the most rockin' joint of the three.

Enjoy!:sunny:

Its a most excellent choice!! Our favorite and we go every trip. This time we went rather late, like 8:30 but our kids are much older, so it was o.k. If you are planning to spend the night at the mk, then try for an early seating like 5 p.m. Your family will love you for making a ps at chef mickey. Have fun. Its really popular but we did see a family of 4 walk up like 8:45 the night before easter, I think that was an exception however.

Breakfast is good, but dinner is awful!! This was the worst meal I have ever eaten at Disney World. :crazy2: :crazy2:

Complete waste of money. Only had 2 characters stop by in the hour that I was there.

If a character meal is what you are seeking, then I would recommend either the Crystal Palace or Garden Grill. If it's dinner near the Magic Kingdom, then I would try O'Hana's or Whispering Canyon Cafe.

I agree with the go to Chef Mickeys crowd. We go the first night of each trip. It has become our tradition and evrybody looks forward to it. We also get the pictures of our group that you take infont of the large plate. It is great to see how my niece and nephew grow from year to year. It is also very convient as the Poly, Contemporary and MK are all on the monorail loop.
