Is changing hotels necessary on vacation?

I've been reading threads where families stay 4 nights here and 3 nights here on their Disney vacations. I'm sure there are pros and cons to doing this. When we check into a place and get comfortable we usually don't want to pack up and move again. Going through check in and check out twice seems like a waste of time to me. Someone please shed some light on this topic.

Thanks! :D

I agree w/you. I'd rather just unpack at one hotel for shorter says (a week or less). But, if I was staying for like two weeks, I might try out 2 resorts. For example, I wouldn't be able to afford Polynesian for 2 weeks. But, I could probably afford Pop Century for a week and Poly for a week. That's the reason I could see switching resorts.

We split a stay this year and we thought it was a total pain!! I would never do it again!!

We LOVE to change hotels. The different resorts offer so much!
We stay anywhere from 12-16 days and split our stay at three hotels. We only go to the parks 6 days, and spend one other day at TL. The rest of the time we spend touring Disney resorts, DD, and Orlando area attractions. On our non park days we spend a lot of time at the resort. We like having the different restaurants for breakfast and different pools and amenities that each resort offers. Hotel hopping is a big part of the thrill for us. However, we are in our 50's and travel without kids - and we live out of the suitcase.

I've grown up always staying at one place, but on our trip last year to Yellowstone, we couldn't decide between two fabulous places to stay. That's when I got the idea to split the stay between the two places. It worked out well, the pros being a new setting, getting that beginning-of-your-trip feeling, new amenities, etc. The con was that after only a few days we needed to pack up and check-in to the new place, which was a little disruptive. I think in the future I will stay at one place unless there is a specific reason for changing (I wouldn't change just for the fun of it). I realize it's not for everyone, but I do see the benefits switching. Who knows? I may try it at WDW at some point just because there are so many hotels I have never stayed at and would like to experience. We don't have kids and we travel light, so switching is probably a lot easier for us than some others.

I never even realized people did this as a regular thing, again we only got the idea for our trip out west last year.

I wouldnt like to change hotels, and dont really like to change parks mid-day. Once Im there, Im there ;)

The only reason I'd do it would be from a money standpoint. We want to do Grand Floridian for our next trip but the cost is astronomical compared to others. One posibility we're looking at is staying at a more economical resort for the first 4 nights, focusing on visiting the parks, then spend the last 3 nights at GF, spending more time at the resort itself.

I think it would depend on how often you go / plan to go to WDW. For us we made what will likely be the only trip we make to WDW (Disneyland is only a 9 hour drive) so we stayed at ASMo for the first half of the trip and then the second half was split between the GF and AKL (it was a 15 day trip). It was well worth it. All we had to do each time we switched was put things away and Disney did the rest. Heck ASMo even took them straight from the room to the GF. The GF we needed to call the bell hop to come get them before we left the room.
