Is Captain EO or Ellen's Energy Adventure worth seeing once?

I guess that I'm in the minority, but I've passed on Ellen every time I've been to Epcot as I don't find her funny or interesting.

I am also not a MJ fan, having been brought up on rock and roll, blues and jazz. So I was very surprised when I went to see Captain EO on my last trip and really enjoyed the performance at the end. The movie started out goofy with the star wars parody, but it made me smile and laugh a bit. After watching the performance at the end, I had to give my props to Disney as it was a really good classic MJ performance. The music and choreography were very well done and I found myself reliving those MTV days of the 1980's. Again I'm not a MJ fan, but I lived through the MTV days and saw the Thriller videos.

If you watch the performance of MJ in Captain EO, and then watch a video of Justin Bieber (which I can't stomach) you'll see how MJ was in a class of his own then it came to Pop music and performance in general. Even if it's not your favorite music, it's enjoyable to see some one who was the best at what he did.

Ellen is worth at least once ( though my DD loves it) . Captain EO is really old and needs to go

Everytime we have gone to the parks in the last 2 years we have had a broken Ellen ride. Frustrated, haha!

Likely because someone got up and tried to leave. If anyone tries to leave once it starts, the ride stops, theater needs to be emptied and the entire thing reset..Which is why there are 1000 warnings in both English and Spanish ( well not that many , but enough ) before the ride starts telling you NOT to get out of your seat..I got stuck on it at least 2x last visit because someone felt that the warnings didnt really apply

Two of my favorite nap attractions. If your feet are killing you and you're tired and you don't have to wait- go for it!

Despite it being much-maligned, we are fans of Universe of Energy. Loved the original and (even though we're not huge Ellen fans) we enjoy the current incarnation as well.

Having seen Captain EO when it first opened, I convinced the kids that they needed to at least see it once in their life. Afterwards, they disagreed. :rolleyes1

I am in the camp that you should try every attraction at Disney at least once, unless health issues prevent you.

We never even consider going to future world when we visit Epcot. My parents used to when I'd go with them, but I suspect they've given up as well, seeing as when I informed them that Captain EO and Ellen were still operational they were shocked. DW and I normally just shop around, go to Spaceship Earth, possibly Test Track, then hit the World Showcase, and the aquarium on the way out of the park. This last trip Pop Warner started a couple days before we left and the lines were all ridiculous, so we decided we would go to Future World just for laughs. DW has only been to WDW once or twice as a kid before we got married. Since I've never taken her, she's never been to Future World. We went on Captain EO and the Figment ride. We got a laugh out of both of them. I would say if you're bored and want a laugh of of the sheer outdatedness of the rides, yeah, give them a shot.

If you want to be entertained and go on a fun ride, I'd take a pass.

Ellen is a must-do for us - we love the jokes!

EO is not one that I would have cared about, however my DD, who was 13 or 14 when it came back to the parks, was mesmerized by it. DH and I were surprised, as we thought that it was so cheezy that a teenager would mock it. Then my DH reminded me that our generation was just as blown away by MJ in the 80s. Whatever you think of him as a person, he was a very dynamic and exciting entertainer, and my DD was experiencing that for the first time, untainted by all of the personal junk that made him such a mockery in later years. She was too young to have really paid attention to any of that.

All of this to say, that younger folks might actually enjoy it, so you might want to give it a shot.
