Is bringing your own microwave crazy...?

I've also been kind of surprised at how condescending some of the responses have been. We have stayed both on and off site in the past and will probably do some of both on future trips. There can be advantages and disadvantages to both and people make their choices based on what works best or appeals most to their family. I don't think there is any difference between someone bringing along a couple of extra items to make their on-site room more comfortable and someone who puts in some extra time and effort to find the easiest way to get to the parks from their off-site hotel. Granted, both can be taken too far - if I'm staying at a Disney resort (or any hotel for that matter) I certainly don't want to see someone out frying fish on the sidewalk.;) And we all know that off-site guests have been known to park at Downtown Disney or in resort lots to avoid paying for parking and some have admitted using resort pools for their midday break. I think as long as the measures you take do not pose a hazard or inconvenience to anyone, then do what works best for your family. And, as was stated earlier, a microwave is less hazardous than a hairdryer.

The intial title of this thread:
Is bringing your own microwave crazy...?
Made me immediately say YES! Sorry if that is offensive and upsetting but I don't go on a hotel vacation to bring my cooking tools from home. We are big time campers but even with that we don't bring a microwave for our tent if we are camping and electricity in onsite.
If I am forking out the money to stay onsite in a nice hotel then I want to relaxe not cook my meals or drag all of that stuff with me.
I also don't think it is right either. But that is me.
For those of you who do bring a crock pot where do you wash it? or a big spoon to stir or flip something? I know with a microwave you can use almost all paper products but still.
And why is everyone who is so upset about those of us who feel it is wrong? When we decide to go on vacation we do what we can afford and if it means staying in a tent we do! Fort Wilderness is wonderful!
I just think toster ovens, George forman grills, and crock pots should not be used in a hotel room that doesn't have cooking facilities. As for microwaves, if it isn't offered with the room then it shouldn't be there.

We all come to the budget to share ideas on ways to make our trips cheaper. The OP asked if bringing a microwave was crazy. Some of us think it is. I don't understand why the people that think it's ok, and upset with those of us that don't. All we did was answer the OPs question and gave reasons why we think it's crazy.

We all enjoy visiting this board, but we won't always agree with everything that is posted here.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, here.;) But I do want to clarify something. I am not upset with anyone who disagreed with the OP or with my response. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And as I tried to point out in my last post, what seems like too much bother to one person may be perfectly acceptable to someone else. To each his own.:)

I am kind of bothered, however, by the rude and condescending tone of SOME (not all) of the responses. Maybe some of them were not meant to come across that way - we all know how difficult it can be to accurately convey tone and attitude in these posts. But I think some of them were meant to ridicule - as I recall, some even resorted to a little name calling. To me, that goes beyond "just answering the OP's question". I'm with Disneyjunkie, we aren't going to agree with everything we see posted here. But if I disagree with someone, I try to do so in a respectful manner or I just don't respond to that post.

This seems to be a trend i see in a couple of posts now. All someone does is ask a question or place a post, and they are attacked? Someone asks for an opinion, give it, do not ridicule. What did they do to you? Are some of us better than others of us because we live differently or have different amounts of money or choose to spend it differently? This topic is not about microwaves anymore, but common decency. I started reading these boards for tips for a nice family vacation. Does that make me a disney junkie? Maybe so until my trip, because i want as much information as i can get before i go. If someone thinks that because someone posts a question or stays onsite that they are a junkie, why do they read or post here. Are they not a junkie as well? I'm not trying to preach here, but it seems that theres an awful lot of people bashing others. Feeling better about ourselves are we? I'll take the attacks on me now for this posts, but i certainly think that its sad that it has to be this way. Doesn't feel very friendly.

Dear Prince

The vast majority of people on this forum or in the world are nice but some people need a bit more attention and so they act out in order to get that IMHO. I just refuse to let one person ruin anything for me. It is also possible that the people who went a bit over the line are in the middle of some kind of life crisis and just had an off day. I am the grandmother of 6 wonderful children and I refuse to reward them for bad behavior and they have learned to ask nicely for what they want. It is my wish that the world enjoy them as much as I do and so I hope to help them learn to be the kind of people who are easy to like.

This is an overwhelmingly nice place to be, Disney junkie or not. (smile)

I have no complaint against others saying not to take a microwave, but there was the condescending tone in some posts that bothered me. I agree with crusoe2.

I think that the OP has gotten sufficient opinions to allow her to make a decision concerning a microwave.
Because of that, and because this thread is deteriorating to the personal, this thread will be closed.
If you care to debate the merits or "craziness" of taking a microwave to WDW, please feel free to join the thread that is on the Debate Board.

Thank You!
