Is Boma all that?

I really think it's just all a matter of taste. I went last year and while I thought it was just ok, 2 people I went with loved it.
I do not like fruit or anything sweet with anything savory (except for Take5 bars or chocolate pb covered potato chips! LOL!)--and they have a lot of stuff like that, so that's the only reason I thought it was just ok.
I would try it--why not??!!!?:thumbsup2

My family ate at Boma for dinner the 1st time in September and fell in love. It is now one of my favorite WDW restaurants. I highly recommend it!

I would never, ever consider NOT going to Boma if I'm anywhere in Central Florida. One of my Top Five places to eat of all time. The desserts alone are worth the price.

There are some things that I don't like on the buffet, but I always eat too much there.....I love it.

I'd love to have some grapefruit/avacado/papaya salad right now...

We went for the first time in Aug and really enjoyed it. I loved the coconut curry seafood soup (only time I have ever gotten seconds of soup at a buffet). Our only regret was our early, 5:15, ADR. We weren't hungry enough to try everything we wanted. We are going back for breakfast on our upcoming trip and are excited to try breakfast.

Went to Boma in Oct and we loved up. There was a beef dish with almost a custard like on top ad it was so great. It was very busy but we have spent a lot of time with the mouse so we are never in a hurry.

I'm not big on buffets, but I really enjoyed Boma. Interesting, unique, and delicious food. I would say go!

I keep hearing great things about Boma. The menu doesn't look that appealing to me. That being said, we do love to try new foods and we really wanted to check out Animal Kingdom Lodge. However, it is going to be a little off the beaten path for our plans.
I guess what I am trying to ask is:
Is it worth going out of our way to eat at Boma? :confused3

Dinner at Boma is wonderful. Unlike other restaurants (even at home), we've eaten at Boma numerous times and have never been disappointed. We are also very adventurous eaters and love to try new things. The menu did not look that appealing to us the first time we saw it to be honest, but because it's a buffet, it's not as big of a deal as it would be at a TS restaurant. You don't like something? Well there are tens of other dishes to try. I think what's so great about Boma is that a lot of the food is unique and original. Of course there are American cuisine options as well. I think it would be impossible to leave Boma hungry.

Now I think one of your concerns is that the restaurant is off the beaten path. The bus ride from AK is very short. If you don't have a car, but will be spending the day in AK, consider eating at Boma. Definitely give yourself time to check out AKL. The resort is gorgeous and there's a lot to see.

We thought is was okay, nothing special...but, the smell in the AKL lobby from Boma is unbelievably good.

We have been to Boma twice, once with a group of 10 and once with a group of 7. Each time, we arrived in time for our ADR, but ended up waiting at least 45 minutes to be seated. The last time we were there, we didn't feel we got our money's worth. The food was good, but the craziness around the hostess stand is not something we will repeat for awhile.

We won't be going back. It was so played up and everyone acted like it was such a huge deal that we even got a res. We went in September. There were very few things that we liked. Everything was either really bland or really spicy. A lot of mystery foods which of course the kids didn't like. The desserts were great but I have to give Boma two thumbs down. Except of course, the atmosphere and the service which were wonderful :)

We went to Boma for the first time in August and we loved it. I think with a buffet you are always able to find things you like.

We had dinner there one night during our October trip. The food was quite good. I personally didn't care for the meats at the carving station, but more than made up for that with salads, sides, and soup. The butternut squash soup was to die for, the couscous was great, and the variety of hummus (especially the kalamata olive one) was delicious.

We didnt like Boma dinner at all...the food was too sweet for us, lots of vanilla and cinnamon in the food.

We loved Boma.

It is different enough from all the other on property dining to be worth going out of the way to eat there. It's not truly like going to a great ethnic restaraunt in your home city, but they do some creative things to make it a unique experience.

If you are a really pickey eater who only likes a few of the common foods that you can get anywhere on property, then don't bother going to Boma.

Yes. It is all that and more. Dinner at Boma is the only must-do on every trip ADR for our family.
You absolutely must try it. There really is something for everyone.

I love Boma and on many of my trips it the only ADR I even make. There is a huge variety of food and there are a lot of health conscious choices. The food is kind of African-lite. I have eaten at much more authentic African restaurants but Boma is a good introduction without the spices being too much for the standard diner.

There are also plenty of choices for the more middle of the road eater. Some of them have exotic sounding names but aren't all that abnormal. On two of my trips friends of mine from Tampa came over and loved the food even though they are not adventurous eaters. For mother's day this year I was down there with my mom and brother and both were aprehensive but thought it was the best meal they had after they tried it.

If you are a coffee drinker make sure to get the press pot and if they have any honey wine give it a try. Many times they only have South African wines and the honey wine is from further north but if they have it (and you drink wine) give it a try.

I think what I like most about Boma is that it isn't the same old, boring buffet menu I seem to get everywhere else on property (we end up at a lot of character/buffet meals). I am a picky eater and found plenty to enjoy. Then again, I could make an entire meal out of hummus & falafel. My uber-picky 5 yr old didn't starve either.

I think AKL is worth a side trip to go see & soak up the atmosphere anyway and while the animal viewing may be better in daylight, I love the lodge at night. If you don't ty Boma, consider checking out the lodge anyway.

We tried it a few years ago, we won't be going out of our way (dinner) again for it. It was ok, we enjoyed it well enough, but we don't think it is all that special. Now OHANAS... that is something special!!! LOL

We ate at Boma in Dec. 07......it was okay but don't think we would go out of our way to eat there again.
