Is Boma all that?

I keep hearing great things about Boma. The menu doesn't look that appealing to me. That being said, we do love to try new foods and we really wanted to check out Animal Kingdom Lodge. However, it is going to be a little off the beaten path for our plans.
I guess what I am trying to ask is:
Is it worth going out of our way to eat at Boma? :confused3

My family has gone to Boma on several occasions. Each time we like it as much as the time before. Our last trip we had around 40 people in our party and everybody loved it. We all had the buffet and there was something for everyone.

Yes, I think it's worth it. They have a variety of different foods you can try and the best part is you can go back for seconds and thirds of your favorites!

The constant crowds standing waiting for their ADRs would suggest it is worth it. We will be going again next trip as our first meal, then out for a dip in the pool, not sure I would go out of the way to do it if we were staying somewhere else.

We think the food at Boma is good enough that we have made this our traditional first meal on every WDW vacation.

If you aren't sure that the dinner menu is right for you, why not eat at Boma for breakfast? On our last trip in August, we wanted to sightsee at the AK Lodge and have a meal there too, and we knew the dinner menu was not for us. I'd say your best bet would be to pick an EMH morning at AK, hop on a few rides, grab a fast pass for later and head over to AK Lodge for their breakfast buffet. It's a short busride over there and back.

I thought the buffet was great. It had alot of normal breakfast favorites mixed with some different choices.

Good luck planning!! :goodvibes

We went for our first time to Boma in December. It was good. Not something I would go out of my way for but good.

If you like to try different foods you may like it as there are quite a bit of "sweet" flavorings vanilla, coconut and cinnamon added to many of the foods.

Warning!!! If you are an extra-large Pooh sized person and they seat you next to the window the spaces between tables are very small. I spent most of the night worrying about not infringing on any one else's space. When it was time to get up to go to the buffet DBIL would slide out first then we would move the table so that I didn't bump my chair into anyone.

I much preferred the Victoria Falls lounge and walking around to dinner. :)

We always go for breakfast - one of our favorites. Try the ham at the carving station :)

We tried Boma for the first time on our Mommy and Daddy only trip in September. I have wanted to try before but the menu I admit intimidates me, I am not an adventurous eater....I want to know what I am eating. We enjoyed some but I would definitley try the breakfast next time. We had a great server and the place was lovely in the lodge but dinner menu was not for us:)

We always go to Boma for dinner. My husband would be upset if we didn't. You definately have to like to try new things, which is great for us. We are adventurous eaters. The atmosphere can be loud and busy...but that hasn't stopped us from eating there every trip since we first discovered it.

Oh and as far as it being off the beaten path....It is for us too. We usually go there on a day that we are going to Animal Kingdom and then use the Lodge's bus system to go to DTD after dinner. Don't ask me why....We just always end up doing it that way.

HTH!:goodvibes

We will be going there for the first time in Jan. We really wanted to see the lodge and we figured that there was something here for everyone. I can not wait to try it.

We ate there for the first time in Jan. My Dh and I really enjoyed the food. It was the best meal we had all week. But the place was crazy busy. We had the first reservation slot for the day. It was difficult for us to get food and get back to the table with two young kids.:scared: I would not attempt to take them into the throngs of people pushing to get to the food. So we had to go one at a time. One trip up for the kids, one trip for an adult, another trip for the other adult and by the time we all had food, the kids were done and wanted more:rotfl:. A little circus like and not very relaxing.

That said, we are going on a adult only trip this Feb. and we are considering making a trip there for dinner. The food was unique and yummy and if you can take your time to enjoy it, I think it would be worth the trip. Besides AK is fun to explore. Lots to see and do. We planned our dinner around the African story time, we looked at the animals, got our picture taken in the lodge. It was a nice evening.

Oh please do yourself a favor and try Boma... it is absolutely our favorite restaurant and the first ADR I made for our upcoming visit in May! There is even a kids buffet bar with regular kids food if you have picky eaters. I think about that restaurant a few times a week. If I could go back tonight for 1 meal - I would pick Boma hands down! :thumbsup2 It is also a great resort to walk around after your meal... GO FOR IT!

I did not enjoy Boma and I am an adventurous eater. I thought it would be a unique way to see the resort and we did love the resort. We ate after a full day at AK and found it, the day we tried to be very crowded and some of the other guests rude as to my knowledge there are no official ways to line up thus some were coming up the line and others were down.

All the cast members we encountered were above and beyond in help and explaining things. DH who usually likes all new things thought it was ok. We would go back to the resort any day, but due to Boma being out of our way (we stay at other resorts) and not being our favorite we will be skipping it for some time to come.

To each their own and if you feel it is a must try then I would suggest going, if there are other restaurants you feel may be better for your family now, I suggest waiting on this one. Best of luck with your planning.

Yes. We have been many times and no one in our party disappointed. This includes two times when we brought family and friends who had never even been to WDW. And even if not your cup of tea, seeing the animals is a great experience. :cool2:

Its a must do. Love the food. Booked for breakfast and dinner for our February trip.

We had dinner there last year at the suggestion of a CM I spoke to when I was making my ADRs. DH and DS are very picky eaters, but the CM was totally right with this recommendation. I thought it was very good, DH and DS had plenty they liked. I didn't make ADRs there for our trip this month, and then DH asked me "why not?" Well, I didn't know he liked it THAT much- lol! We will definitely eat here again in the future.
