We usually go to Movie Gallery for rentals, my 3 yr old is really the only one I rent for and their kids movies are a buck or two.

We were in a different part of town today and I had told her we could rent a couple movies for this week since it is sooooo hot.

So she picks out Winnie the Pooh (such a sweet classic) and a Word World DVD (a PBS show).

Blockbuster Lady - "That will be ten dollars, please."
Me -

ALL Blockbuster rentals are now $5.00 for 5 days. Wah!!??

She said it was the "same as the Redbox" prices. Uh, no. Redbox is $1.00 a day, I don't see Blockbuster refunding me $4.00 when I return it tomorrow.

This is crazy!!! I can do Pay Per View for less!

So is Blockbuster just trying to put themselves out of business?

Oh, and late fees are back too. Basically they charge you $1.00 per day after $5.00, "same as Redbox". Late fees in sheep's clothing.

No way in the world I will go to Blockbuster anymore. Their not new releases used to be about $3.50, and it is ridiculous to charge that much for a core kids movie.

So I had to have sweet DD pick one, she chose Pooh because we are having breakfast with him in May. Sweet girl, she didn't even fuss about it.

We gave up on Blockbuster a looonnnnggg time ago. There was an article on CNN.com last week about how Blockbuster is basically on the verge of bankruptcy. Here's hopin'. I've never seen a company with such horrific business sense...always "a day late and a dollar short" it seems.

For kids movies I can't get from redbox, I get from the library. I can keep it 7 days and if they don't have what I want, I order it from
another town. Just got dd wizard of oz and mulan!

I agree I don't know how they stay open either with all the other competition like Redbox. Actually the Block Buster by us just closed.

We have Blockbuster Express in our area. It is a kiosk in the grocery store. The first rental was free for one night. Once I registered with them, they send me e-mail codes all the time. Most are rent one for $1 a night, get one free for one night. But every couple weeks they send me another one night free code. I have yet to pay them anything, except $1 for one I didn't return in time.

I can rent anytime and it is due back by 9:oopm the next day. I do use the library for most of our videos watching, but this is nice for the newer DVD's my library doesn't have yet or has a waiting list for.

:)

Took a gamble with $75 cash I didn't realize I had in a stock account and bought 200 shares of Blockbuster - not so sure it was a good deal even at $.30 :)

Blockbuster is heading the same place Hollywood video went recently. We had both in neighboring shopping centers. HV convinved me to sign up for their renters club in January so we could get free rentals and discounted games and not 2 weeks later the store was closed with no warning. I had to fight to get my $10 pre payment back from the corporate office and keep them from charging my credit card every month. I will not take a chance with Blockbuster, they are too expensive. The HV store was actually much better.

We don't rent anymore. I stock up on kids movies from netflix. It's so much easier and cheaper and I love not having to drop them off anywhere.

I don't remember the last time I rented a movie.....

And I don't recall the last time I actually saw a rental place around here. Hmmmm....

Our local blockbuster just closed. I think it had been there 15 yrs or so.

I used to work for Blockbuster, so I know all the little dirty secrets they try to hide in their promotions to get you into the store.

SHARE!!!!

I'm also a Netflix fan. We have the 8.99$/month membership, and basically are sending/receiving every other day. We also use the instant streaming to the PS3. We get way more than our money's worth!

Another fan of Netflix here. No late fees and its very convenient. Plus our local Blockbuster also went out of business recently.

No teasing now. :lmao: Tell, tell!!!

We just received our streaming disc for Wii from Netflix. I was surprised by their children's selection, it's pretty good. I think we get two discs at a time for $16ish per month and between DH and DD it's well worth it.

I've done netflix since they started years ago and haven't looked back at blockbuster! Their late fee was crazy.

We've been using Netflix for a couple of years and love it. Especially now you can watch so much over the Internet - wonderful feature!

We also get stuff from the library. Between the two of them we can get everything I want except for obscure stuff like The Fighting Prince of Donegal. Which may or may not be out on disc. ;)

Family Video is a great place to get kids' movies. They are free! Then they have older dvds for $1 and it goes up a little from there. And there's different fees for how many nights you want them instead of paying $5 for one night or five.

I am definitely convinced now that Blockbuster is not long for this world based on the number of posters who use Netflix.

That isn't really an option for me, I never watch movies and DD only watches, maybe, one a month (I try to limit her tv time).

But I LOVE the library idea, will check that out!

Oh, and when I was sharing this crazy BB $5.00 thing with my mom she said the Movie Gallery where we usually go is going out of business! :sad1:

If BB wasn't so jerky it would actually be sad to watch it fade away, it was pretty much the first of its kind.
