Is backlot tour shot?

To add to the gloomy posts of late (really, I don't want to, I'm just curious) there's a reader report in the "Unofficial Guide" that says Backlot Tour is in bad shape... the Canyon is "tired", etc. etc.

For those who have gone recently - is this just one fussy person whining, or has the Backlot Tour taken a step backwards since I was last there (4 years ago...)

It's not much of a backstage tour anymore. There are no or minimal productions on the lot. It really needs to go for something new

Time for a Carsland! :goodvibes

We last did the Backlot tour about 2 years ago and it was pretty lame then. It just really doesn't compare to what it used to be.

The Backlot Tour is pretty pointless these days. Catastrophe Canyon is okay (especially for first-time guests) but there's not a whole lot more going for it.

I honestly wouldn't mind walking on this ride every so often (lines should move quickly) but.... that dang water tank show!

I don't want to have to stand and wait for the show to re-set. Then stand again and watch the stupid thing for the hundredth time

If it weren't for the water tank show, I'd like the Backlot Tour. PLEASE Disney, offer a way for people to bypass it!

After doing it in 2008 and twice in 2010 (once each trip) I think 2012 will be the first time I don't plan on doing it

If we have time to kill or something maybe but it's just a shell of what it use to be or could be

The whole area needs a revamp. Considering minimal to no actual production is happening at HS, there isn't an actual back lot in working order.

A Cars land like DL would be nice (probably not in the budget anytime soon considering FL expansion) OR what I would really like to see is an expansion in the Pixar area, with attractions dedicated to Monsters Inc, Ratatouille, A Bug's Life and Brave!

Is this the ride where the golden girls house is the highlight? I've not been on it in years. Very very skipable.

Uhhh.... please explain! What do you mean, "went to the recording?"

Cast members used to be the tour guides for this show, but they added a recording of all the information. I guess since the tour never changes they didn't find a need for a CM to try to remember all the details. Now the CM sits at the front making sure no one stands up.

Its very boring now, I just like to go on it to look at Walt's plane! ;)

Yes, but they removed those for LMA

Went on Backlot Tour in March with my mom.
We had been on it a lot in past years and really enjoyed it.

We didn't want to see the pre-show (again!) so we just walked right on through. No one said anything and we actually came upon the prior group so we blended right in.

Got right on the ride and like another poster had said, they totally ruined it when they went to the recording. I liked it when they're was a real CM talking-I felt like part of a tour then.

Also, it isn't a working Studio anymore so there isn't much "Backlot" to it. Yeah, you get to see old movie props but once you see them its not fun anymore. We zoomed through the costuming area-so fast I really couldn't see anything. Not sure if this is the norm but holy cow we were booking!!! :rotfl2:

Catastrophe Canyon is still fun but when my Mom and I were on it last, the track didn't sway like it did in past years. We were disappointed because it swayed a lot in past years. Other than CC, I personally don't think the Backlot Tour is as fun as it used to be. I remember the old days of the Backlot Tour in the early 90's when it was a working Studio and you could see them filming something. Hey-I remember them taping an episode of the Mickey Mouse Club and we were going right past! Also, I LOVED the facades of all of the homes, esp the Golden Girls.

We will probably not return to the Backlot Tour when we go in September. I know my husband will not like it.

I thought Stitches Great Escape was the worst attraction in WDW. Guess not!

This attraction has been dead ever since they gutted the studios, removed all of the working studios and amputated most of the backlot to put in LMA. This poor thing needs to be put out of it's misery and buried. What currently remains is an embarassment compared to what it was originally.

I remember seeing MMC taping! Sadly, that was the closest I ever got to Damon Pampolina. :confused3

I took my DD6 on the ride in February and it was stale and boring. I hadn't been on it in over ten years, so I was very disappointed.

My wife was looking forward to doing this on our last trip, as we had missed it for a couple of trips. I had my doubts, but I smiled and got in line.

This thing is gutted. Basically, you stand in line for AGES for the chance to ride a tram past a greatly reduced number of movie props (most of which are in terrible shape).

I love Disney, but this things is just a sad disgrace.

I miss the old Backlot Tour. I miss the old facades. I miss riding the bee from "Honey I shrunk the Kids" I miss the CM doing the tour.

So yeah.....it's shot.

I'm seriously glad I've had the honor of going to Disney World since it opened (admittedly I was a child then!) and thus been able to enjoy the attractions when they were in their prime.

As other posters have stated, this is WAY past its prime. It should be respectfully buried and something new take its place.
