Is ASMovies worth rack rate?

I haven't been able to get any discounts for May at the ASMovies. I know my kids would enjoy it, but it's $30 more per night than the offsite kid's suite hotel. My son thinks having his own little room and Nintendo system would be great (at the offsite place), but I'm leaning more toward Movies. Please give me your opinions, I have to decide today! I have the All Stars on a one day hold and have to call back today or lose it.

YES!!!! Although we haven't stayed offsite before so I may be a little biased. We paid rack rate last May (before I knew about all the discounts!!) and I have to say it is worth it. It came to 110/night tax included, but to be able to take the bus back to the hotel midafternoon and relax by the pool and go back to the park around 5-ish is definitely worth it. And if you don't stay onsite you can't do e-ride night. If this May is anything like last year, temp wise, you'll need those mid-day breaks. And if your DS is anything like my DS when it comes to video games, do you really want the Nintendo in your hotel room? ASMo is a really "Disney" resort, we stayed at AKL this past March and I have to say for more than double the price I'd rather stay at ASMo for rack rate. It really has the WDW feel to it, more so than the others.
I'd just keep calling back, discounted rooms sometimes open up at the last minute (that's how we got to stay at AKL).
Don't forget---DC disc., AAA, Amex or any code available. Of course with "summer savers" being offered you do have less of a chance. But----you never know! GOOD LUCK!!!!!:bounce:

I haven't stayed off site either, so can't really give an opinion that way.
I think it would depend on if you have your own transportation, etc.
We stayed at ASMo (Toy Story) in January '02. With the AP rate, I only paid $55 a night (w/tax). It certainly was worth that! ;)
Would I pay double that? Heck no.
I really enjoyed ASMo, more so than DH. He liked CSR better (from Jan '01 stay).
Last February, I tried booking ASMo (TS) again. That same room was going to cost $94 a night! I went for a mod for $10 a night more.
Hard to think that ASMo Fantasia was the same $ per night as POR (or any mod).

I didn't even think of the moderates!! I think that the ASMo discounted rooms would fill up faster than the others, they seem to fill up even faster than the other AS. You could call and ask if there are any discounted rooms available for the other AS or any of the mods. You may get a room at one of those for around the same price as ASMo.

:)

If you join the Disney Club for 39.99 (29.99 if you can go through your employer) ASMo would be 84.00 a night, that's a little bit better. ~:)~

But keep in mind having a DC card or AP's does not guarantee a discount rate on your room.
And I think AAA and DC are the same discounts, in case you already belong to AAA.
Good luck! :)

To me it would be worth rack rate. We just loved it there and cant wait to stay there again. I would say its my second favorite resort, only after the Polynesian.
As for the price, we have a nearby beach area that we visit occasionally. The prices of old dumpy motels(with no food court, and only 1 boring pool) are well over 100.00/night. Maybe thats why the rack rate of the All Stars seems very reasonable to me.

If you are a Florida Resident, tell them that and you get a GREAT discount. We are going at the end of May and were quoted $77 per night at all stars (including all taxes, etc) and $93 (also Inc taxes) at Coronado Springs. When you compare with Off site property rates be aware that their quotes do not include the taxes which are very high! go for the Allstars. the kids suites with their own rooms are OK but be aware that their "room" is about the size of a walk in closet.

I've already tried with all the discounts I could think of DC, FL res., AP, but nothing is available. We're going the first week in May. A week ago there was nothing even available at rack rack for the AS Movies so I had kind of given up. I haven't tried the AAA rate, it may be worth joining to get the discount.

I've stayed off site 3 times and will never do it again. I convinced myself that the money I saved was worth it, but the time I wasted and the hassle of driving or other transportation was definitely not worth it. Then there's the Food Court (which we love for breakfast and sometimes lunch), the fabulous Disney transportation, ability to have packages sent to our hotel, etc...and I know I'll never stay offsite again. Try your best to get AsMo---we loved it. This time we're going to stay at ASMusic---but I called far enough in advance that I was able to get the DC discount. Good luck!

When I was trying to get the AMEX discount I called 3 times in a row, the first CM said absolutely nothing available, the second CM said all but first nite available, the third CM said no problem, we can do that! Don't know if the phone calls are long distance for you but call several times a day every day, I bet you'll snag one of those discounts. ~:)~

Book the ASmo before you loose it and then keep trying to get a better rate there or at a moderate. ASMo is a great place and so much better and being off site.

Agree with what others have said... ASMO is worth it!! We paid rack rate April 2001 and do not have one regret! We loved it and the bus service was excellent, IMHO. We were there at one of the busiest times of the year and we have no complaints about the bus service. We did have one driver who drove like a bat out of h#ll, but that's another story! LOL!

We've stayed off-site before, but after our Easter 2001 trip to ASMO we never will again. Actually, I wouldn't pay the extra $ to stay at any of the Moderates either. One day we would like to stay at a Deluxe again, but right now the kids don't want to stay anywhere else. As a matter of fact, neither do we!

Wherever you decide to stay... Have a Great Trip!

I feel the same as Neeter about the Moderates. After staying at ASMO, I prefer that to the moderates.

Another thought...can you change your dates, like a day or so? We just called yesterday to check on prices and availability at ASMO for Aug. We wanted to know for 5 and 6 nights, starting on 8/25 with the DC discount. For the 5 nights only the preferred rooms were available(not our preference;) ), however when the CM went to check for 6 nights, a standard was suddenly available. Its funny the cost of 6 nights was only 24.00 more than the quote for 5 nights preferred.
Good luck!
