Is Artists' Point Worth Using 2TS Credits?

We are lucky enough to have Free Dining from 8th Jan for 7 days. This is a bonus for us as we weren't going to get the DP at all but we still probably would have gone to a few TS restaurants.

We will be using 2TS credits for Hoop Dee Doo and I was wondering if it is worth using 2 TS credits at Artists Point as well? We would like to do a Signature Rest and I like the look of AP's menu. We are also want to do a Mama Melrose "Fantasmic" Package and are considering a Crystal Palace Breakfast. This would mean we would only have 1 TS credit left. After looking at menus I'm quite keen on Capt'n Jacks or Coral Reef and we love Mexican though I'm thinking we could probably get good CS Mexican at Epcot.

If we do Artists Point we will have to go back to our Cabin to make ourselves presentable. I have no problem with that if the restaurant is worth losing some time in a park.

Any advice before we make reservations would be great.

When paying for the ddp, no 2-credit meals are really good uses of credits. But when it's free, maximizing value isn't an issue.

I haven't eaten at Artist Point yet, but it's #1 on my list for my next trip. Heard great things.

For us, yes, using 2 credits for Artist Point is worth it ;). We ate there for the first time this past December and it was amazing.....the filet was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife....and the salmon (which is their signature dish) was just as awesome :thumbsup2.

^^ Agree (well with the first half :P).

The only time that maximizing the plan matters (when taking advantage of the free dining plan promotions) is when comparing the savings to a room discount. And with the lower rates and lower discounts at values and (sometimes) mods, it's still usually a better deal even if you'd normally be way under.

With that said, AP is very good. If you have the extra credits to use them there, go for it. If not, I'd still recommend going for it and paying OOP if that's an option :p.

Thanks for your replies. AP sounds like it's worth it. :cool1:

And I can't believe that 4 months out I've already decided...to have the salmon!

Have you considered upgrading your regular DDP to the DxDP? You would just pay the difference. If this is feasible for you and would work with your schedule, I would really recommend it.

For about $66 more a day you and your DH could have three meals a day, appetizers with every TS meal, more snacks, and drink mugs.

My DH upgraded like this a couple years ago and it gave us a chance to try a lot of signature restaurants. You should look at it and see if you think it makes sense giving that you are considering eating at two places which require 2 credits.

The only thing I don't like about using two credits from the regular dining plan for a signature restaurant is you still don't get an appetizer. I think part of the signature experience is including the app.

At any rate - Artist Point is wonderful. My DH and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner there! :thumbsup2

Let me be the "rest of the story", if I may.

My experience is from two trips ago, and it seems that my opinion is in the monority... so it may well be that we went on a bad night, or were just unlucky. That being said...

My wife and I set aside time to do Artist Point without the kids as a special "just the two of us" moment on our trip.

From the moment we walked in, we felt uncomfortable. We found the atmosphere of the restaurent to be very stuffy, and the staff to be cool to the point of downright unfriendliness. My steak was good - not amazing, but good. My wife's salmon was underdone, and the staff acted very put out to fix the issue. The supporting dishes were, in all, honestly not that tasty.

By and large, we have enjoyed many wonderful memories at Disney, but this was easily the worst dining experience we have had in three long trips. I doubt that we ever try this one again.

DH and I ate there for our anni dinner a couple of years ago and LOVED it! I would say it would be well worth it. From the food to the staff for us it was great.

We ate there earlier this month and it was my favorite meal of the trip. Everything was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented (the halibut=heavenly). Our server was very courteous and prompt. Everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is a bit more upscale, but I didn't feel like it was stuffy. That said, I think you could get an unfriendly server or an "off day" at any restaurant, even the 2 TS ones. I've heard a lot of people complain about Narcoossee's service as well, but when we ate there, the service was excellent and so was the food.

We have booked AP for Friday 13th Jan!! Thanks for all your feedback. I was actually glad to read a negative review as too much praise leads to high expectations.

I did actually consider this when I realised we could get free dining but the truth is we would probably not eat that much any way. We will have a light breakfast in or cabin before we leave.

At AP, if we feel like appetizers, we will probably pay extra along with our wine bill and enjoy the Signature experience at a fraction of the cost. Everywhere else we will stick with the main and dessert. Unless of course something from the appetizer menu is enticing enough.

If you aren't big dessert people then I would suggest doing 1 person on the ddp for this meal and one pay oop.

We normally pay for the person who has the cheapest entree oop and we do the ddp for the person with the more expensive. Then we split a dessert. Then the meal only costs us a total of 2 credits (1 credit per person) and about $30 bucks oop. Plus then it leaves us an extra meal for both of us later in the trip. And that $30 oop would not have paid for a full meal for 2 anyplace else.

Hope that tip helps!

We ate there last Aug. With my hubby and 2 kids age 13 and 7. We loved it even the kids. My now 14 year old son choose this as his must do for our Feb. Trip. Our server was a man who had worked there since day one of the restaurant opening. He was fabulous. If anyone knows who I am talking about I would love to know his name so we can request him again.

Our motto at restaurants is "There's always room for dessert!" and with our 3 teenage DD's it's probably best if we use up the DDP credits. We will probably end up paying OOP for a couple of appetizers and just share them around.
