Is ANYONE out there watching Design Star?

We don't know how much time they have to shop, or design, because they don't tell us that anymore. We DO know that they shop at Sears (which, of course, is exactly where I'd want my designer to shop if I lived in Manhattan...not!)

And good point on Courtland gaining experience...so what if next time he is in the bottom two with someone who has never been in the bottom before...does he avoid elimination because he has so much experience being in the bottom? It's just insane.

I disagree with Vern. They make all the challenges team challenges but when Cortland was overruled he cut him down for it. Do they just want to see arguements?

I agree with this. They put them into teams and when they work together as a team they get busted for it. Vern even said that committee decisions are the worst kind. Well what the heck do you think they were supposed to do when they are working as dang team???? :confused3

Finally watched. I doubt Mr Trump has ever shopped at Sears. I'm sure they agreed to do the show for the exposure. But did we really believe that anything from Sears would meet the Trump standard for a model condo?

Didn't like either apt and it is looking more and more like I am not as dumb about design as I thought. I was thinking that I was sorely deficient to not fet anything that they were doing.

Glad to see that I'm probably not as bad as I thought.

And I don't like Vern. He was much nicer on Trading Spaces. I read in People that he and his partner just adopted. So maybe he is just cranky from lack
of sleep. They had a picture of the nursery which I was to crazy about. But it looked better than the Design Star interpetation of Trump Opulence by Sears.

And I like the house hunter shows and my indulgence is Selling New York.

I just watched the Trump show. Both designs were terrible. I could have done those myself. Nobody can build (decently), no body can sew. They do shop at Sears (sponser), but they shop at other stores too.

In past seasons they had little money & tight time limites but still managed to pull together beautiful pojects.

As for the team projects, in past seasons when they've done team projects, they assigned a captain. That would make it less like Vern's dreaded "designing by committee."

If a person is to host a show it is important to have the "captain" skills. Why they did away with the captain is beyond me.

I just watched the Trump episode tonight. I didn't think either room was luxurious at all, although the blueberry one was particularly bad, especially the bed. I did like that bedroom's wall color though.

I don't get how they berate Courtland for not speaking up & getting his way when he was outnumbered. He did try to speak up & give his opinions but the other two outvoted him or didn't even bother listening. Of course it's all in how they film, edit & present it, so you never know what really happened.

I also didn't get how the one woman was eliminated because she gave herself a 60, which happened to be the same score the judges gave her. They didn't ask the other two what they thought their score should be but I think Tom would have given himself a high score. So 2 were eliminated.

Will they ever get to do a room on their own?

Both kitchens last night were "meh." I knew they'd send home who they sent home because they wanted the top 4 to be two guys and two girls.

I seriously don't have a clue in the world regarding the individual design styles of any of the designers. I can't imagine that I'd watch an HGTV show featuring any of the top 4.

It doesn't seem like this is even a THOUGHT in the minds of the producers. The people are ALL unlikeable, like in the Celeb Apprentice, but in the latter show we didn't have to deal with them again.

HOW does a designer NOT know how to sew? HOW does a designer not know how to make a bed??? HOW did some of these people make it thru the selection process? This show is a joke this year!:confused3

I think that whoever guessed that they've already got the theme of the show picked out - finding "inspiration" through bizarre objects (yellow kitschy taxis and band instruments) - is probably right. Whoever they pick will do that show.

I was sad to see Alex leave. I don't think he was ready for his own show or the best designer, but he was definitely my pick for most-likeable. Both of the kitchens were really blah, and I thought Courtland should have been in the bottom two (again) instead of Emily - their kitchen was ugly before she styled it - everything had a very yellow tinge to it.

I guess they got tired of having to redo the unfinished kitchens for homeowners once the show was over - but I'd much rather see them work in actual spaces rather than white boxes all the time. Even the apartments they've done weren't real homes but blank canvases. It seems the only show the winner will have proved they could do is Decorating for the Sears catalog.

I really think that virtually any of us could have done kitchens as good. Sears provides some modern, stainless steel appliances. It's not a real kitchen so the layout is easy. A custom flooring guy comes over and we pick one. A cabinet guy comes over and we pick some. We order some accessories and food online. Ta-da!

I agree! :thumbsup2

I have seen pic posted here of people's kitchens that looked just as good. I also know a few people who have re-done their kitchens and they have looked that way too.

I hated Alex's team's kitchen, hated the seat cusions and the fabric on the side of the island, and the junk all over the counter, not that Emily's wasnt as cluttered but at least there was a consistent theme to her items. Anyway last nights show was just an hour advertisement for Sear's Kenmore appliances, Lumber Liquidators and Cabinets To Go. I feel like I was watching an infomercial
Why is there no real designing going on this season

Truly "decorating" at most, not designing. And even then, easy decorating when there is no apparant budget and you get your stuff from Lumber Liquidators and Cabinets to Go.

It's really ridiculous that the show is this far along and, as you said, we have no real clue as to what kind of designers these people are. Designing around corkscrews and taxis is just dumb.

And if they were just looking for the best personality to host some canned show, it seems like they wouldn't have chosen the final 4 that they did. None of it makes sense.

Alex created a triangle of appliances for easy use (which I've heard about on HGTV SHOWS) and the judges put him down for that, saying some mumbo-jumbo about not having theme show through or some nonsense, I didn't even understand them. Isn't placement of appliances important in a kitchen??

I like how they talk amongst themselves in front of the contestants to see who they decide to eliminate. They're 6 feet away, I'm sure they'd be able to hear. It's probably all decided beforehand, just doing that for the cameras.
