I got an email yesterday that said the Condominium meeting for OKW is Nov 29, and BWV is Dec. 5. Is it worthwhile to attend any of these meetings? Since I am newly retired, I thought about flying down for a couple of days to sit in on a meeting. Would I find them interesting, or are they as boring as dust? :confused3

been bad I only went one DVC meeting and it was pretty interesting.

Doc does to most of them and I think he enjoys it.

You can learn a lot. Sometime they announce future plans - so any future sites of DVC might be announced then.

(although my guide thinks it will be announced between Oct and Dec).

I am going to the SSR meeting, only because we will be down that week for vacation anyway.

I think the annual condo meetings are kind of fun. The OKW one is the only one I've been to. It's interesting to meet some of the other owners, including, sometimes other DISers (Hi ChuckS!). At the two that I've been to so far, there's been some "scoop" that they announce at the meeting before they announce it anywhere else. In 2003, it was the upcoming pool slide (which generated lots of controversy). In 2005, it was the availability of the DDP for DVCers, and we got the opportunity to see some of the DVC exclusive merchandise that they were planning to have available for sale. Just be aware that although they have a section of the meeting set aside for public comments, it's only about 10-15 minutes long and they really don't want to discuss any big issues with members' stays. Although I won't be going this year, I'm already planning to go next year, assuming it continues as the Wednesday after Thanksgiving.

I've been to two BWV meetings. They are interesting, but no way would I fly down just to attend one. :)

Won't be there this year for BWV, but am thinking about going to the OKW one - just to see if I can meet any fellow DVC DISr's and to hear what's on the DVC schedule for 2007.

Best wishes -

Never been either, but we plan to go to one while there. Ours is the week before we go, but we'll just hop into another one. I love to get scoop!

No but it's a good excuse to go to WDW-"I HAVE to go to WDW for the Annual Condo owners meeting. It's my civic duty."

That's a good one! If I had any vacation left, I'd go for it.

Wait! Those meetings are held over a period of two weeks, so we should go to all of them, right? And since they don't run all day every day, it would be OK to enjoy the parks and the resorts while we're there, too, right? :teeth: This is sounding better and better. Come to think of it, it kind of sounds like jury duty - that's civic duty, too. Hmmmm. Never asked the boss man how he feels about "civic duty". Surely he wouldn't expect me to use vacation days for "civic duty"!!! :p

Best wishes -

I was wondering this myself. We will be in WDW the first week of Dec. when they are holding our BCV Condo Assoc meeting. We were not sure if it would be worth taking time out of our busy trip to attend but since it will be held when we are there... maybe we will go after all.

I have attended several over the years and hope to again this year. If you will already be onsite, it's defintitly worth an hour out of your day to attend.

Members are welcome to attend any of the meetings, even if it's not for your home resort.

The "business" meeting is very tightly scripted by the Board Members with no opportunity for any input or questions from those is attendance. This portion of the meeting will last no more than 15 minutes. Jim Lewis will comment on the state of DVC with an overview of the past year accompanied usually by a video presentation. Afterwards, the resort manager will be introduced and will then present a report about the past year and any plans for the coming year - usually other resort staff will also be introduced at this time.

There is normally about 30 minutes for questions/comments from the floor. Sometimes there are good questions about issues we discuss here every day and usually there are many complimentary comments about how much the individual enjoys DVC. With some of the questions, DVC staff will immediately address the issue and with others they will promise to "look into the issue". Don't expect any "secrets" to be revealed - even in response to a direct question.

The whole event will last about an hour with a brief opportuity at the conclusion to meet the principles if desired or ask another question.

I'd highly recommend for members to attend a meeting, regardless of home resort, if for no other reason than to get a feel for the organization itself. Enjoy the meeting for what it is - but don't expect any real opportunity to discuss any issues in depth. Those concerns are probably better addressed by writing to DVC at Celebration or contacting MS.

Enjoy!

Since I will be at BWV on Dec. 5, maybe I will go. Doc says it's worthwhile! What is the time and where exactly is the meeting held? (Shows you just how carefully I read official DVC correspondence UNLESS it's about any upcoming trip!)

According to Vacation Magic:
Disney's Old Key West Resort (Nov. 29, 12:30 p.m.)
Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort (Nov. 29, 3 p.m.)
Disney's Vero Beach Resort (Dec. 1, 2 p.m.)
Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort (Dec. 4, 9 a.m.)
Disney's BoardWalk Villas (Dec. 5, 9 a.m.)
The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (Dec. 5, 12:30 p.m.)
Disney's Beach Club Villas (Dec. 5, 3 p.m.)

It doesn't say where they are held within the resort. I'm sure the front desk will know.

Last year they were in the convention part of the BC/BW area. I am not sure which resort the convention area belongs to but it is in that vicinity. All the resorts have their meetings there.
