is anyone else watching the VMAs

VH1's been playing a lot of MTV stuff recently.

Yes, VH1 even had the MTV Most Shocking Moments show on the other day. I was surprised because I thought that VH1 was trying to be different.

I enjoy the historicals (Behind the Music), the various 'greatest' lists, and the Where are They Now shows. That's about it. No Classic channel here, Blondie.

Turned off the rap performances. The Sheryl Crow tribute was great...

Pink was drunk, but she was pulling up her pants...thankfully.

I don't care for the look of it either.

Wow - Eminem really hates Moby! I'm not sure why he would threaten him on live tv, that was pretty stupid! My DH is pretty mad at me for making him watch this lame show. The performance that's on right now (Hives and Vines) is absolutely atrocious! Those of you who haven't turned it on aren't missing a thing!

the sheryl crow performance was awesome. eminem's was good. christina looks like a ho, the usual. shakira was good too.

Eminem is the only performer banned in our house. DS (9) started expressing interest in him and I had to stop that. So he's threatening Moby? Moby always seemed harmless to me, a little odd but harmless.

I haven't seen it yet, but I know that Moby has said that he likes Eminem, and Eminem in response said he was shocked. I don't think there really any is anything serious to Eminem's "threats." (like much of what he says.)

And why does everyone seem to be so obsessed with The Hives and The Vines... I guess I will have to watch to find out...

My DH just turned off the tv - he says that he is finally putting his foot down for the first time tonight! This was an awful show, and concluding it with GNR seems kind of fitting! No disrespect intended to those of you who like GNR, but it was a pretty bad performance.

okay...just came on for the west coast...and i HATE the look of it. it looks like a movie, not an awards show. i don't think i will be watching the repeats of it...i can hardly stand to watch it now.

This years show was definitely the WORST one ever. Pretty much everyone lipsynced.
Wasn't expecting GNR at all.

I noticed the look, too! It kind of gave me a headache after a while! And the lipsynching must stop! Artists seem to be forgetting the purpose of live performances or something

I too also agree- very not live- fake - however we put it not the same as usual.

i don't mind the lipsynching. if i just wanted to hear them sing, i'd listen to the mp3 or cd. it's about the performance, and while it's unfortunate that performing doens't necessitate actual singing, it's still very entertaining, and good performing.

Axl needs to take some singing lessons...that was horrible. I was cringing through most of it.

Ummm just to clear some things up about the lip syching and whatnot...

- When aired on TV... everything you hear on TV is going to sound like it is sung perfectly when in actuality it is being taped live so MTV editing in a sense dubs the edited recorded song over the live version. If you were actually there, you would be hearing them live...

- From what I'm being told by a friend online, she's was saying that it was recorded today seeing as how she lives somewhere in New York... whether it's true or not, I can't say

- The look that MTV was going for this year was to make it look as though it was on video and not a live viewing... for those who have ever taken visual media may know about this being that this is only my second year...

If that helps, that's good, if not my apologies... and if you check out mtv.com, and view a music performance from the evening, chances are you'll only hear the live version
